Aliexpress Takes This Long?

wall03

Sorry if this is not in the right sub-forum.

I ordered a micro-SD card in late April. It "departed China" on May 5th. It has not come yet, or even come to the USA yet.

Buy another from closer to you then and see if you can cancel the other, beware though that some sellers have a very bad habit of saying items are lost in post... and some say that if you didn't have insurance you're SOL. I only ever order stuff from China companies that I can wait for a long time for, for this very reason, and from sites that have protection against this type of thing.

Did you pay for express air post or did you choose the cheapest (free?) ship by boat whenever it's convenient option?

If you need it soon cut your losses and buy one from a local retailer. Might cost an extra few dollars but you'll actually get it in a day or two instead of 2-3 months.

China channel is generally at least 6 weeks of there is a boat involved because that’s how long it takes to get from a chinese port to an east coast or southern port.  About 10 days less for a west coast port.  This was before the virus kicked everything up.  There are fewer airplanes now, and boats tend to be filled with PPE which has priority.

so fits with old normal.  New normal may be even longer.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

I filed for unemployment on the 6th of May, still nothing. But I'm not relying on China shipping either. As others have said, it may take awhile, especially with the pandemic. My dad and I ordered reusable face masks with n95 inserts, they took about 2 months to get to us from the other side of the USA. So being a non essential item, it may take even longer.

It's not a good idea to order such common stuff from AE. You can literally get that card in a local supermarket, and it's not like it's massively expensive anyway, regardless of the (web)store.

I personally only buy stuff from AE when it's something that:

-I'm unable to obtain from any local retailer (like some component that is only sold locally as part of an already assembled machine)

-Is waaay more expensive to obtain locally (such as large Li-ion/Li-polymer batteries)

All other things, I get locally because I value getting things as fast as possible.

If lucky, it takes 1 month from China to eastern europe at least.

And I've ordered at least 20 iteks from Aliexpress,

but(!) you could pay a lot to get a faster shipment!

The time of transfer varies a lot by location and method of transport.  There was a period where China -> Midwest USA in which 10 days was pretty commonplace.  That was when things went by air though.

Yup, I added to my last post, that paying for transport you can get considerably faster, the items you ordered... all about dough!

I do that every day, even with third party websites, including the one suggest by Gearbest themselves. No result.

Third party stuff is going to be the only option until the thing arrives in the US or whatever country it’s going to.  It’s probably still in China.  They have a very different postal system and the supply chain can be quite complex.  There is the manufacturer, the delivery system between the manufacturer and the lister, the lister, the warehouse of the lister, the delivery system between the liste and the aggregator, the aggregator warehouse, the delivery system between the aggrigator and the shipping company, the shipping company warehouse, and the ship.  All of these are before it would ever recieve a standard non Chinese tracking number and it could have hung up on any of them.  Or not even hung up but merely still be being transferred between them.

Buy one locally then.

Never order anything you can't wait an unlimited time for from the Chinese retailers unless you're OK to pay $30 for express shipping and it's still worth it... keep it for the "cool but non essential gadgets that will be fun when you receive them at some point". Especially now, the usual 2-6 weeks can be easily doubled.

And avoid getting memory cards from these as well since the risk of getting unusable fakes is high.

In normal situation it was 4-12 weeks to Europe. Or "order now, forget whole thing until it arrives". With COVID-19 pretty much every shipping is bit delayed. Well, not our domestic, thats still 3-7 days.

They usually give estimates for each method. Express is $30 on top of the normal pricing and that means they use courier service like FedEx. Usually not worth it if you are going to AE to save money in first place. The bit faster option gives 14-22 days and is something like $15. The last two options are with tracking number, which is $7 extra and without, which is free. Both are 22-40 days last I checked.

That may happen eventually.  Sort of.  Supply chains do for sure need some going over.  That much has been LARTed into humanity by Covid I think. We need Systems that are robust as well as lean.

Average wait time in my area for most things from china is 6 - 12 weeks. 25% of the time you can tell its been opened in transport, probably over in customs.

I'd imagine the wait time is longer at the moment with covid.

Tracking number is usually hardly ever actually updated as well.

1. China shipping already takes a long time, especially if it is by boat and not by air.

2. Fucking global pandemic, lmao
