Games with excellent sound tracks (aka video game music thread)

Nertballs

Surprised nobody mentioned Ratchet and Clank 2&3 yet. The ENTIRE soundtrack is amazing. Some of my favorites are the soundtrack from Boldan, the city overrun with protopets, Grelbin, arena from UYA, and UYA 3 boss battle.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, your ears are missing out!

Hell yeah, man! Ratchet & Clank games have awesome tracks. There's even an official 8-bit version of Into the Nexus's main theme.

Anyway, can't go wrong with Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Fire Emblem, Metroid, and basically any of Nintendo's games. Square Enix, too, but I'd like to add Dragon's Crown and Muramasa: The Demon Blade's soundtracks.

Most of the J-RPGs from oldschool Square games (FF3, 7, Mana, Chrono Trigger).

Fallout 3's theme is also pretty epic.

In your opinion, what game has an excellent sound track?

My vote goes to Halo 3: ODST. That OST is just so amazing.

YESYESYESYESYESYESSSS.

YUSSS.

Halo 3 ODST is my favourite soundtrack of a video game, it is part of the reason it is my favourite Halo game.

It just gets across that sense of desolation and loneliness, and allows an otherwise silent protagonist to speak through music.

Nobody seems to agree with me though; you are the only person I have ever seen saying that they liked that soundtrack.

Anyway, I also really liked Far Cry 3's, Halo 3's, Fable II's and Skyrim's soundtracks. People need to start to appreciate game soundtracks for what they are.

Also, Inception and Black Hawk Down had incredible movie soundtracks.

There have been many great songs in games over the years, but the one that I think rises above all else is Baba Yetu from Civilization IV.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHqWiBTMgEM

When I got Civ IV in 2005 I was all hyped up about finally getting a new Civ game and couldn't wait to start playing it, but I actually had to stop in the main menu for a long time just to listen to the music. It just sets a perfect mood for the game and it's also the first piece of game music that's won a Grammy.

I also recently got Christopher Tin's album Calling all Dawns that includes Baba Yetu. It's a great album and I recommend it highly.

Half Life's music and Halo Combat Evolved and 2's music were just amazing.

GTA has always had nice music because of the very wide range of taste and genre.

I have a car trip in a few days, and would like some music to listen to. Anyone know of good video game soundtracks? I prefer orchestral ones, being a viola player. But if it sounds cool, I like it. Any good ones?
