BOINC Pentathlon 2020

Check your account, it says how much credit you have and if you took notice before you uploaded you should have a good idea.

I just cross-referenced BOINCstats. So I just gained ~200,000 points...is that a lot?

I'm going from #453 -> #178 in the team so I'm guessing that it's a lot. Already have a top 25% badge and I'm been on Rosetta for 5 days.

NumberFields@home for the javelin throw has GPU work

*tents fingers*  So it does.  Hopefully I can keep it fed.  I've been hearing that people can't get GPU tasks on it.

Maybe it was just overloaded for a little bit, because I just pulled 800 tasks across 3 rigs.

Yipes.  I've only got one GPU task on it. Is there a prefetch function or something?

Humbug.  None of the current projects seem to be GPU.  F@H, I guess you get to keep my GPU then! :) (I've got my CPU dedicated to Rosetta)

Numbers is GPU, if you have AMD you need to go to the project website and allow test tasks.

I've been completing tasks on NumberFields but it's not reflecting on the server yet.  Anybody aware of the lag time for the stats to update?

First system lockup of the event, computation errors and failing uploads complaining no internet access. Couldn't SSH or console access it so it got the boot. Hope it doesn't happen to any more. Hopefully the running jobs that didn't error will resume.

Btw who is currently doing Universe@Home?

I plan to soon aim my 1900X at that.  I think if I remember right, I can run that on a Pi as well.  So, may look into loading BOINC onto the Pi to crunch it.

Also, plan to abuse the old Toshiba i3 laptop again.  That poor thing has endure I think three to four Pents in its life so far.

Third hour incoming, wonder how far we'll drop this time (or gain).

I mean, still in third. See what happens.

I'm switching my systems back to native as they run out of work. Don't forget to switch your rigs to https if you haven't already. The boinc-manager doesn't do it for you automatically. You have to manually add the "s" to the URL.

Kind of stupid.

Okay, this is odd.  Went to over to my 1900X to check on it.

:I  Seems Rosetta is a tad odd with this CPU.  Had it set to use 90% of CPU, but saw two Rosetta WUs sitting there complaining about needing memory.  But memory usage is showing only 7.9GB used out of my 16GB total.  Back the usage to 88% of the CPU, that cleared up and now around 8.9GB of RAM being used.  Also notice on load, even at 88% setting, almost all cores at 100% used except one.

Update:  Oh, silly me.....darn default for RAM is 50% max usage when loaded.  Notice it while looking over on my Xeon and going, why is it not using near 90% either.  Looks at global configs, O.

You have to do it on your BOINC Manager or via CLI. Do note when you do it will drop all of the work you currently have.

Not through BAM!, do it through BOINC Manager:

  1. Go to "Tools" > "Add project...".
  2. In the "Project URL" field, enter "https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/".
  3. Click "Next >", check "Yes, existing user," fill in your Rosetta@home account details, and click "Next >".
  4. Once you get to the finish screen, you should be good to go, and you should see your previous http:// Rosetta@home project's points being carried over to the new https:// Rosetta@home project.
Spoiler

Before adding the https:// Rosetta@home project, I'd suggest you (1) set Rosetta@home to "No new tasks", and (2) finish crunching and reporting all Rosetta@home tasks to get your points. I mean, if you care about that sorta thing. 😉

SETI.Germany, WDYM we lost points?! 😤

RIGGED, I SAY.

Spoiler

JK, JK. Here's how points are allocated, Rules - Awarded Points, for the curious.

TLDR: Points per discipline/event are capped at 100, and overall standings for each team take all 5 disciplines into account (maximum score of 500, say, if a team beats the competition in all 5 events). The Pentathlon seems to be set up so that dedicating your entire team towards one event isn't going do you much good if you tank the rest.

For whatever reason my 1080 and 2070 machine have 2 running tasks and 50+ gpu tasks waiting to start, but then my 2080s machine has 2 running and none waiting to start, it seems to get a new job on completion.

Dunno if my machines can finish all those tasks today, so I have set them to no new tasks.

Also I had no idea I would need to change to https:// Rosetta@home, so thx for bringing it up...……………..I miss F@H, so much simpler 😄
