If anyone is looking to use Spot instances for CPU workloads, I found out that Azure has some surprisingly cheap prices in the Australia Central Region. Also For On-Demand Google Cloud N1-HighCPU in US Central is cheap too.

NumberFields@home was a pain, each computer had over 100 tasks waiting even though I stop new tasks hours ago, I'm running 8 pc's so just had to cancel 1000+ tasks.

They have a fairly long expiry so you can suspend the project and keep the tasks. The next throw has a decent chance of being within the expire as long as you got the tasks in the last day or so.

Universe@home doesn't look like it supports gpu's, should I switch some cpu's to Universe@home or keep them on Rosetta@home?

 

I have:

Ryzen 3700x, 1600af and 1200

Intel 8700k, 4790k, 3770k, 2500k, i3 7100, i3 6100

 

I'm cpu weak compared to my gpu's, guess that's why I did well in the F@H competition.

So my wife is a runner and I casually mentioned the other day when heading out to the Computer Store to curb-side pickup some RAM that I was just in training for a Pentathlon. She got a confused look as she glanced at my glorious physique.

I give up. We reinstalled the OS, updated the OS, and wiped the existing config. Something is wrong with the hardware.

 

That's too bad. I didn't lose anything though, I picked it out of the trash. Also 24 of the ports are only 100Mbit so it's not like it was a great find. Gigabit has been standard for like 2 decades now.

That sucks. Time to scour eBay for used 24-port Gigabit rack-mountable switches.

 

Though a quick look at NewEgg shows some 16-port rack-mountable GigE switches for $70US including shipping.

My first casualty. Fold8 is unhappy. Hard locked twice so I've thrown it on the bench. Didn't quite have all the instrumentation working yet from the rebuild but it looks like it's a thermal issue with the CPU or VRM over-heating.

 

Replaced the 120mm RGB fan on the DeepCool 120mm AIO on the Ryzen 2700x with a Noctua NF-A12iPPC2000 so we'll see if that helps

 

I'm seeing RPMs reported by the pump but don't feel any difference in vibration on any of the two lines. I'll keep an eye on it and if it's still misbehaving I'll either try a new mount with fresh TIM or install a Wraith Prism and see what happens.

Having issues to solve makes it more fun and help to keep things interesting.

 

I thought I have a stable overclock on my 1600af @4.1ghz, Rosetta disagrees, seems a little more voltage is doing the trick, but at first I thought it was a memory issue.

 

One of the fans on my rx 470 is almost falling off, clip on the back of the shaft has split so its just being held in by magnetism, if it spins up too fast it may take a trip around the case, ordered a new one off ebay.

 

My 4790k was overheating so I strapped an old aio cooler on it, makes a lot of disconcerting gurgling noises, hopefully I don't find a puddle.

Running multiple instances is really only useful when bunkering. The marathon has already started so you're better off running one instance with as many cores as you can spare.

Had that last week or so with a 140mm case fan that decided to split in half. Luckily it was at the bottom of the case and no other components were affected.

I'm going to wait and see what the other teams are doing first.  We still need people to do it but it's such a big job for me to move I'd like to know how much first.
