I feel like I should make a joke about that, but... social distancing is necessary at the moment. #609

Those and Lightning cables have always been really fucking fragile in all my experiences with various iPods and iPhones, both first and third-party cables. It's comically bad.

While I do agree that Apple's bundled cables have always been fragile. I have replaced a fucking 30 pin connector because I was charging my iPhone 4s in a dimly lit room. The advantage of Lightning over 30-pin and even micro USB is that you can charge at either direction.

The pictures of the 30 pin apple connector reminded me of another cable I had in my stash.  Conventional USB to a 30 pin connector that looks almost identical to the apple connector but was for the Sandisk mp3 media players.  And for whatever crazy reason they put all the pins in it.

Sony MSAC-FD2MA Floppy Disk Adaptor For Memory Stick: Amazon.co.uk ...

memory stick to 3.5 inch floppy disk adapter.

and it's not meant to use on computer floppy drives

Sony's Mavica FD71 liked floppy disks, hated magnets: Digital ...

it was used in sony mavica digital cameras. they are the grand daddy of consumer digital cameras, and the first line of digital camera with swappable internal memory. which...

Sony Mavica - Wikipedia'

this is the first mavica prototype, and probably the first ever professional NON-FILM ELECTRONIC camera(not digital, but an analogue still video camera). the famous tiananmen tankman picture is taken by AP reporter using one of this model. the pictures were transmited to AP HQ using satellite link since phone and fax lines were cut.

what is apple fanboys anyway? they have no idea how badass Sony was back in the days.

Sexy, Simple Sony: The TR-1825 Radio - Core77

this is sony TR-1825 solid state am radio.

IT WAS RELEASED IN 1970

Before that there were plate view cameras with digital scanners bolted to the back.  Exposure time was ridiculous.  Granularity was fantastic though.  Polaroid was messing with them iirc, though they weren’t the only one.  I guess it depends on how you count it.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

I have thrown away all "vintage" adapters I had a long time ago. There was no point in keeping them.

Do the "crazy" adapters have to be functional? This thread reminds me of a couple of fake adapters that sometimes pop up on ebay like 5 pin 3-phase CEE power to garden hose for example. Then there is the whole category of adapters that would technically be "functional" but useless and/or dangerous (5p 3-phase CEE plug to USB, where everything except earth is connected, just to give a stupid example).

You know you've owned a Sansa before when you immediately recognize that cable.

VGA to RCA-plug Component video, anyone? It's bi-directional!

image0.jpg

No, I don't know why this exists. It's objectively fucking useless for almost every scenario you might use it in. And yet I own it, because I like the idea of forcing resolutions I'm not supposed to through Component.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!
