LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Having a hard time making my quota every day. I'm stuck at 9 WU and the last day I am showing work was the 27th. I'm hoping this is just the stats not being updated over the weekend.

Just doesn't seem to be enough work going around.

(Yes I tried the tips for making it run better)

The last 3 days, I've earned in excess of 517,000,  725,000,  and 636,000 points.  But so far today I've only gotten 29,335 points, and I am pretty sure that was very early this morning.  I've found in the past that after rebooting my PC it immediately gets WUs.  But so far it hasn't worked.  Does this mean we've succeeded and found cures for all diseases?  Or is there something I should do to get my PC back to work?

As one might expect, just before I was about to hit "submit reply" I saw that my PC just started on both CPU and GPU  WUs.  I guess that means we haven't cured all diseases yet. :(  Any idea when LMG will have their own server up and running to serve us WUs more reliably?

It's been running for a while now, but they've had very few WUs to serve out.  Most of the time it's only been receiving completed work.

Overclocked my R5 1600af to 4ghz, running 11 threads and my RX 5700 is running stock turbo speeds...Have a small fan blowing directly into case with side panel off. Hope to make a little up from this weekends lack of WU's. Should hopefully break 1 million points today with this rig. My wifes pc with a rx 570 is chugging along, producing about 500k points a day.

Do people on the LTT team automatically connect to that server?  Is there some setting I should enable?  Or is the LMG server just one more server receiving and distributing work that everyone folding@home might connect to?

It's just one of many, you don't pick the work server, it picks you.

AFAIK, it's random.  But you note they have 0 public jobs, which means they don't have any work units to supply right now anyway.  Also, GRO_A7 is the CPU work units anyway, so if you're looking for GPU, it won't be from them.

Screenshot of my Elastic Folding cluster. No extra heat in this house! I just spun up a g4dn.2xlarge just to benchmark it.

How are the g4dn.xlarge instances doing?  I spun up a P3.2xlarge spot instance which is registering about 3.5-4m PPD on the Telsa V100 at $1.05/hr. Haven't paid attention to what the CPU is doing. Let us know how the g4dn.2xlarge does!

Looks like I've had 3 WUs from the LMG server (searching my logs for 168.245.198.125), though there were 4 requests and it refused one lol.

IIRC they are running Tesla T4s which would put em at a 800-900k ppd per card in my experience >.>

Edit: Per instance* (since only the g4dn.12xlarge have multiple gpus)

Trying to get my Folding@Home stats in to my signature for these Forums.

However, following the instructions here haven't been helpful because I get nothing but errors when trying to do it.

Also, I've hit the 2.8 million point mark (78 WU), and I was wondering how I go about getting my badges?

But - gotta say been nothing but fun doing all of this, so it's no biggie and this in no way is a hot issue.

Thanks all!

Well shit, I normally turn off my SFF rig during the night, had a WU about to finish and debated whether to stop it there or let it start another expecting 2 hours or so, did the latter and it picked one of those humongous 80k base ones that'll take 8h on the 1070.

Guess it's got its schedule set for the night then.

Windows 10 Pro

[ Context: an AMD HD 6950 failing WUs, on Windows 10 Pro ]

Thanks for the reply. I'd been commenting on/documenting the folding-usefulness of old Radeon 50000/6000 series cards (mostly due to having a fair number of those still lying about myself) with the answer basically being HD 5830+ and HD 6930+ (i.e., double precision support).

In my case the focus is Linux and I guess your result doesn't necessarily mean the same would happen on Linux but, well, I'll admit that I'd have given it better change to work on Windows 10 even if didn't on Linux than the other way around.

If anyone here's folding with a HD 5830+ or HD 6930+ from the 5000 or 6000 series (7000 series is expected to work) a shoutout would be appreciated, but I'll for now note potential issues with 6950 at least....
