Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

So…far better protection…but less efficient due to always having to double convert?  Or are they enough of a higher quality that even though the theory says they should be less efficient, they're basically not?

No, they're typically less efficient but only by a couple of percentage points these days. They have a "green mode" which typically puts them into bypass and switches fast to dual-conversion when needed but then your back in line-interactive mode.

The main reason I like having a UPS per machine is I can find out the real power consumed per node and use monitoring system to calculate efficiencies and graph them. You can do this with one large UPS and a metered Power Distribution Unit (PDU) but I've yet to find any of those within my budget.

For a 2KVA dual-conversion UPS and a metered PDU your looking at $1200 - $2000US.

In an ideal world I'd like a UPS with a 240V/Split Phase input and multiple 240/120 outputs so I could run my rigs at 240V where the PS are more efficient but that starts getting really odd-ball.

For now, my at-the-wall power monitoring is broken as though I have lots of small UPSes I have only a few with network interfaces and the CyberPower USB connections while supposed capable of reporting actual load (really %Load) in reality the USB connections are flaky as hell and drop on and off-line all the time and I haven't had time to beat at it.

except that you can't find firmware on their site for some of the older cards.

We just use Cacti and SNMP Calls to the MIBs to get the pretty graphs for management

What I do want is the Service Settings password, that is exceedingly difficult to find (they don't want people to have it, but I really need it. Long story self made EBM and need to see if I can adjust voltage set points).

Imagine starting up an old laptop as an extra contributor because it's the only other thing with dedicated graphics only to have OpenCL errors cancelling the GPU work unit :(.

Hopefully DDU will fix the issue.

Hope its a dGPU, I was curious if Ryzen 5 Mobile was up to the task but due to it thermal throttling at a really low temp, it can't quite make the timeout so is pointless.  (well you get points, but no point folding is the data is late so ends up being re-sent to someone else thus wasting a slot)

It might be fast enough in Linux (it utilises more of the GPU I believe) but I can't get the drivers working. :( The CPU does some good folding though.

BTW guys, Team LTT is now clearing over 200M points per hour!

Way to go guys, RIPPCMR, RIPGN... Hell... RIPeveryone!

Even with this increased production LTT has fallen to just 21% of the Folding@Home network... FOR SHAME!

It was the only spare I had lying around from my very ill advised days of crypto toe-dipping. Only good thing I got out of it was that thing.  Comes in handy when I need a jank build thrown together with some high-quality 12v power.

Nah, that just happens to be there because of a LED light "open heart" surgery I did to mod it to be the right power (10w vs the listed 3-4w) and the spot light only points there. Bit of a hobby thing from time to time. 😛 Also, none of those cables are near long enough to wrap around that beast of a potted plant.  Sucker is attempting to outgrow its pot yet again after its first upgrade.
