LTT Official Folding Month 2019!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

I'm thinking its gonna be some physical problem probably networking like an old switch freaking out to the increased throughput or something.

Could be a multitude of things. Something rebooted without it's config saved and loading an old config. Link Flapping, bad fibre. If you have your network instrumented you should be getting traps about these things or have utilization trends showing where congestion is occuring.

Likely all the students watching NetFlix or streaming and someone made a booboo and forgot to put the rate-limit back on

Friggin' Dyslexia. Had the o/c written down for my 1070Ti as +105. Was wondering why it was only running at 1961MHz.

+150 and it's back up closer to 2GHz

Unseasonably warm in Ohio for this time of year.  It was 88 today, go figure.  I had to upgrade my cooling solutions.

I neglected to mention that they were working against 2 folding heaters ?

Honey, I noticed your computer seemed really hot today so I covered it in a wet towel. That's ok, right?

Big NOPE from me... that's death. I've had to open windows already and that's only with 4 GPUs.

I have windows open pretty much 24/7 all the seasons. Except in summer I have my window partially opened with a window-mounted AC running into it.

I really hate lack of oxygen and closing windows is a big no-no from me.

2 cards and about 20 degrees C near bed. closer to keyboard more like 22-23

For the 1080ti strix that I got I was looking at the same dilemma and the difference came down to power limits. The oc has a slightly higher power limit than the standard strix as well as a better oc out of the box and likely a better achievable oc (we are talking withing a few % of each other though). I don't know for sure if this directly translates to the 20 series but would imagine so if they are going with the same naming scheme.

my strix 1080ti (non oc) has limits worse than both my 1080tis by EVGA (the Black SC edition, non ICX even). probably binned by asus while not by evga. You'd think the better cooler card would be a better oc'er... well it isn't in this case.

Haven't folded in about a month now, I've been waiting for cooler temps and they are finally coming around here in California. So today when I was trying to start my first fold I see my GPU is being used like 3% if that. Am I missing something? I have updated my motherboard bios (x570, 3700x) as well as nvidia drivers for Borderlands 3.

I've had GPU usage well into 85%+ before. I want a reason to use my headphones while my PC actully does work for once and while Destiny 2 downloads.

traffic noise and the heat that did it.

open windows maybe? instead of the door? and move the device to a more open area, how is it producing so much heat? it shouldn't really be that noticeable except if you're on a very high end system. in any case, you can lower the production a little bit, say, going to do medium folding power instead of full.

Hey, I noticed my new x570 mobo has a microphone input. I wonder if it’s hooked up to the Super I/o chip if I could use it to measure the dBA in the basement.

Probably 45-50 dBA currently.  It doesn’t really bother me though as a) I’m getting old so if my cards coil whine I don’t hear it and b) in the rec room next door I wear over the ear headphones while watching videos.

Task manager doesn't show the compute/Cuda usage that F@H has.
In task manager go to the Performance tab. Select the graphics card and change one of the graphs to show CUDA usage.

say you have 300w on vega, 350w on 2080ti and 50w on the 1030. that's 700. cpu is not doing much, is it? so that's say 50w more, plus 50w for other stuff like hdds etc (I'm very generous with the calculations here), so we get like 800W usage or so. now, psus are rated based not on the power they draw from wall but on output. so theoretically even at peak outputs ^ listed there it should be totally under control for a 800W or higher rated psu. Also, they good ones are stress tested really thoroughly and rated below what they can achieve maximum, about 10-20% left for safety purposes.

Wait it has a mic input that isn't through the sound card (chip)? that is really weird. But if its not through the regular sound chip then yeah I cant imagine anything else it would be hooked up to.

what size is your psu? also if its a well made psu they usually trip internal breakers before catching fire. but that does depend a lot on brand and model.

It was announced in at least one TechLinked and two WAN shows as well as a twitter shout out or two. Then also our word of mouth here on the forum. Next year I'm thinking about a superbowl ad.  lol.
