How much screen time do you get?

StarsMars

I stopped watching TV in 2011 and slowly started to fill in the gap with Youtube, Netflix and more games.

I thought at the time that choosing to watch a documentary on Netflix or listen to a podcast on Youtube was much better than Hell's kitchen melting my brain.

Starting to think the internet has gotten worse now than TV was then.

All the algorithms creating echo chambers, large established TV companies moving into YT,Facebook collecting data.

I went through the major news organizations YT pages, checked the titles and thumbnails. Pretty obvious patterns.

There was a short period where people were talking about how screen time was starting to be a problem.

Seems like I moved past that and straight into near constant screen time either at the computer, work or phone.

Is that the norm now? What effects has that had?

I'll be honest and say there's rarely a point in my day where I'm not stuck to a screen, so i easily get 10 hours on average.

The only times where I'm away from a screen is at work, out shopping, eating at lunch and/or dinner, gym, partaking in hobbies such as maintaining my PC, modifying my keyboard, listening to music, and obviously sleeping.

TV = 2-3 hours a year.

Computer = 14 hours a day.

Phone = 1 hour a day tops, sometimes literally 10 minutes (thats why my H815 with 9000ma battery usually lasts me 10 days)

Sleep = 4 hours a day, 6 tops, my life is a mess.

Pretty much all day or so when I don't work or plans. I'll say 6 hours or so if I have work or plans.

10 hours at work, 4 at home ... in terms of pure screen time that's not good for my eyes (which I get regularly checked) Barely 30 mins a week is terrestrial TV, and that's just the 24 hour news if I'm eating food alone in the living room.

In terms of mental health, however, it's a range of things. Gaming, films, editing music/videos, fixing other people's problems... but I leave my phone in the home office when I go to bed... so there's that ?

Wildly varied between none and 20 hours. Avrage is probably somewhere around 8h a day

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Average around 8-10 hours at work.

At home it varies, some days it is an extra 4-5 hours.  Other days, hardly any extra.  Weekends will vary as well.  Some I hardly look at a screen (usually days where I go outside to parks or drive) while some is me watching something on Plex or getting some gaming in for a few hours (still don't sit for long periods and take breaks to give my eyes a rest on occasions).

There also the weeks or months that I hardly look at any screens except for work.  Tends to annoy folks as I go on a type of hiatus from cell phone usage and internet messaging during those spans of time.
