I'm not saying I agree with the overall mentality of that subreddit but I'm starting to get an idea of why you may have run into some negativity.

To start, there's a running meme in that sub about people showing off PCs with insane specs as their first computers and it tends to be even worse if they're pre-built.  Personally, I don't get why it's a big deal.  It's your money and if you want to spend it on a high end system, that's your business and shouldn't affect anyone else.  Now, that said, I did take a look at your post history.  I'm seeing that you posted about your PC multiple times over a fairly short time span.  It starts to feel a bit like bragging.  It's like driving laps through a neighborhood in a brand new Ferrari and stopping at every house with a person standing outside to yell out "Hey, look at my new Ferrari!"  Eventually, your neighbors will get annoyed and will be far less impressed.  You also seemed to get pretty defensive in some of your replies.  Reddit isn't much different from the real world.  If you run into negativity, you have choices.  You can ignore it and move on, you can try to turn it around, or you can feed into the negativity.  Just my two cents.

I looked up your username and it looks like you submitted your stuff multiple times. Would have been better off posting an album as a single submission instead.

Then when someone commented on that, you decided the cool thing to do would be to call them out in a different submission, which is not really what submissions are for.

Now you have gone to a completely different website to complain about the other site being toxic when your own comment history looks like this

You got 2k points in 'night folks' which is better than 99% of people get on that site, and you got that with a prebuilt to boot so take that and be happy.

Reddit has its issues. The voting system doesn't really put best quality content at the top and the post decay means active discussions fall out of public view unlike a traditional forum where hot threads stay on the board for as long as people are interested in them. But I dont think reddit is more toxic than other websites I visit.

Reddit is pretty bad, yeah. r/ipad and r/apple are just as bad as PCMR.

I tried to discourage somebody from getting an iPad because it was not the correct device for what the OP wanted to do, and I spent two hours getting death threats and being insulted.

Gotcha, I read the first paragraph, then the last posts (showing his toxicity) but still the same thing - Reddit is Toxic (he came from Reddit) lol

I'd say the subreddit generally isn't toxic, just fed up with people who

  • Don't read the build guides
  • Ask for build help but don't provide context
  • Post shitty pictures
  • Don't cable manage
  • Don't clean their PC
  • Are persistent that console gaming is better
  • Make stupid buying decisions (this part is a bit hypocritical)
  • Mention FX, budget, and performance on the same sentence
  • Mention Phenom, Intel, and killer in the same sentence
  • Intentionally troll

PLEASE QUOTE ME IF YOU ARE REPLYING TO ME

I am new to Reddit and all the computer stuff... I was so excited about my first PC and legitimately everyone on there is insanely rude. I don’t get it... has it always been this way?

It's because you visited the wrong page doesn't mean the whole community is rude. Do not generalize that way

But what I can say about the matter is, the internet in general is rude, specially if you get into latinoamerican forums like I used to, that is the exact reason why I stopped checking those out, they are a waste of time. The guys don't know a damn thing, they don't take anything serously and to make matters worse don't try to help either, they are just pieces of internet junk full of memes and stupid jokes (by that I'm not saying you should not have sense of humor) also, they don't know how to be constructive, all they know do is overreact to anything and insult you based on your physical aspect, nationality or whatever they can make up to destroy yo if you don't agree with them.

I don't know if the same can be said about reddit, I have visited that forum and to be fair, I do not want to. I am fine here

BTW I know I am not even close to perfection but I just speak out my mind, no sugar-coating. But I avoid swearing because I am aware it is not allowed.

Reddit in general is, as others have said.

But I would say a solid 50% of PC Gamers generally do have a snobby, ignorant and pathetic attitude towards other platform gamers - or generally anyone with an opinion relating to gaming/PCs different to their own

To me, two kinds of people follow the whole 'PC Master Race' thing:

  • People who have a decent sense of humour and do so for shits and giggles
  • Sweaty neck beards

Personally, I couldn't give two fucks what someone else wants to game on and feel no superiority over someone with an XBONE with my custom loop beefy pc

I love this neck beard thing

Probably just as bad.

ok, we gotta turn down the volume of the name-calling. personal attacks don't promote a discussion, they get closed down.
