Louis Rossmann's take on LTX

Pretty sure the issue was that he would be one of the "star Youtubers" and not just a regular attendee going to an event solely to enjoy it. As he put it, it's business. If I had to leave my own business to be part of someone else's, I'd expect to be compensated in some fashion, especially because Louis doesn't have any kind of brand to promote or booth to market out.

Considering he'd be losing several thousand dollars from trip costs and unfinished repairs back at the shop, all in the end to throw a bone to someone else's event/business (LMG), I think it's a bit short sighted to say this is simply "self centered."

I have zero problems with him not going because of business. If he can't go, he can't go.

What I have problems with is him acting as if Linus asking him whether he could come is some kind of insult to him. His whole answer to the "See you at LTX" by his viewer is in form of a rant made by person who is deeply insulted that someone dared to offer him less than he wanted.

Considering Louis has done a fair bit for Linus up to this point, if I were in his position I'd be a bit insulted that Linus isn't throwing me a bone. It's like none of that work matters anymore.

But since none of us are Louis or Linus, we're all lacking context/info surrounding what was actually said or the state of LMG's finances, so it's all pretty moot anyway. Others were tossing their two cents, so I figured I would, too.

I am asking because I know only the two that have been posted here and tbh I don't consider those as him doing such a big favor to Linus. At least it's not a one sided deal from the looks of it.

True, Louis might not be a professional youtuber (he himself declares that it's just a hobby for him and he earns his money by doing repairs and data recovery) but let's not pretend that a video collab featuring an Apple product repair that got over 3mil views on channel that at that time had over 7 mil subs didn't help him raise his profile and potential clientele.

So yeah, he fixed Linus' iMac Pro but also got some publicity from it - and while he might want to distance himself from YT as an earning platform, it serves him well as an advertising one.

There is also their first collaboration in 2016 but then it was Linus who went to his place so it only cost him probably few hours of time (again, vs. his business being featured to a much larger audience than he himself could've gathered through YT).

We don't know the full context of the situation - I will give you that and it's not an important matter anyway. I just didn't like how he acted so offended over such a simple matter.

We all in this thread have probably spoken about the situation more than both Louis and Linus would want to themselves :D

There probably is, but Rossman has said multiple times he wouldn't have gone anyways unless LMG payed for him to go. LTX is during Rossmans busiest season, simply doesn't make sense for him to leave.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

I appreciate Louis' community post clarifying that we did, in fact, agree to cover his girlfriend's airfare once he explained the situation.

Hopefully that's helps clarify things.

Exactly as I said.  He was going to benefit from being there.

He's also right about business decisions, etc.  None of our business except for the fact that anyone wanting to meet him at LTX didn't get to because of said business decisions that were none of our business.  So it indirectly impacts people.  Hey, be cognizant of the people that support you and generate you money for looking thru a microscope and doing your day job.

Glad he tuned in and is going to do a meetup.  Very cool of him.

"Celebrity" attendees do infact profit from being in any sort of social spotlight.  More views to his videos, more service requests at his store, more name recognition... they are all possible benefits he gets if he attends.  When people nudge the guy next to them and go "Who's that guy with the terrible haircut?!"  Boom, then they go look him up, etc.

Sure LTX is small potatoes but it's incorrect that it's all for LMG profit.

If he doesn't care about those benefits, then that's on him and his value system.  Not sure why his gf has to attend too, can't he be apart for a few days?  Didn't realize he was that clingy and needy.

He's from New York, of course he's going to come off that way :)

Again, he has one single shop, that is always full, there isn't much more he can grow since he doesn't plan on becoming a franchise, and YouTube is a hobby to him.

He came to LTX before and participated in Linus videos without commercial interest.

And last time, him and her spent out of their own pocket to attend.

If he was going somewhere only as a courtesy, on request, again, it isn't an improper request. He hasn't anything to gain, he isn't getting paid and he already spent out of his pocket. And again, LMG is in the right and had its own reasons to refuse. What I Criticize about Rossman here was the harshness of the response.

thats not the issue if he comes he is probably giving up vacation days for the year and if he wants to go somewhere with his gf later he might not be "able" to. you might say oh he owns the business so he can go anytime he wants while technically yes it wont be good for his relationship with his employees and the environment of his workplace. i believe that it is important for you to follow the rules you set if you only allow your employees to have a certain number of vacation days then you also have only those number of vacation days. if the owners leaves whenever he wants and goes on vacation whenever he wants then the employees are not going to respect you

Here is Louis Rossmann's response on why he is not attending LTX.

I think there might be some miscommunication there.

Hope someone from LMG can fix this, at least make clear that you are loosing money on LTX probably.

I both agree and disagree with him. LMG gets more exposure and gets more attendees exited when there are more creators and they know this. If they didn't then they wouldn't have invited so many people who are not even close to tech youtubers. Ant venom is a Minecraft youtuber, tech Joyce is more of a comedy/meme channel, and MyUsernamesThis is just a roblox youtuber without even the slightest hint of tech in their channel. They pay for these people to be flown out and they likely get a pretty sizable return on investment weather it be direct or indirectly. The simple cross pollination from those channels would be enough to increase their revenue by decent amount. I would understand flying his +1 out so he can be with her since he is already providing his exposure for free but I wouldn't understand if he expected his plus 1 to get into LTX for free since she isn't a youtuber or any sort of content creator related to tech. On the other hand I wouldn't understand if somoni just wanted their broski to be flown out with them to LTX because in that case its just a homie and not your significant other which you live with and likely haven't spent enough time not doing work or something of the sort. But of course then they wouldn't be going by the "Did you bring enough for the whole class" rule and people would of course be upset. Over all I don't think either of them are necessarily wrong and just think people are forgetting that Louis is a New Yorker the way New Yorkers compliment people is the way Canadians insult each other so he is prob not as upset as people think he is. Odds are he just went and spent the weekend with his SO and enjoyed his time and forgot about all of this.
Also I prob shouldn't have brought up the whole none tech content creator thing but whatever it was on my mind.
Also sorry for bad grammar I have the literary abilities of a 5th grader and my dyslexia makes proof reading very unproductive. If you can't understand what I'm saying just pretend I'm not here.
