We know what a pickup is and what an UTE is.

What you call a pickup and then try and differentiate from a UTE is just a large UTE. We don't rename things like that just based on size, cars come in all shapes and sizes but they are still cars. We might call them a Sedan or Coupe and we might do the same for a UTE i.e. Double Cab or Single Cab but in the similar fashion as to a car we still call those a UTE.

Car

UTE

Van

Truck

Tractor

etc

Simple and no calling something a truck that isn't a truck. But hey you do you, we'll call everything with a cab and flat bed a UTE.

Another step in the removal of freedom of travel. I also like how they still want Britain to follow EU's laws after leaving the EU

Ute:

Utes, to my understanding, are car-sized usually-unibody-based pickups. Another example, old El Camino

Image result for ford el camino

USA-style pickup trucks are much larger body-on-frame that are not based on car underpinnings. Also the Taco/Hilux.

BUT. Being from not-NZ or Aus, if both categories are considered the same UTE umbrella then cool. In the US amongst car enthusiasts they tend to be Utes (aka, car-trucks) and pickup trucks as separate.

An UTE is a small unibody truck on a modified car frame.

Much like a pickup truck is a split body truck built on a truck/frame.

So these are definitely trucks:

On topic: I bet within a few days of these regulations going into effect, someone will figure out how to disable them on the actual car. Zero chance it's not defeatable.

This is all very cool in practice, but I literally don't care what is what, and just call them whatever comes to mind. A Hilux to me is both a Ute and a Truck, or you can get LC that are Utes as well, both a separate and unibody bed.

The only exception is the new Mercedes Ute, which is just called "Nissan Navara".

Traditionally the term referred to vehicles build on passenger car chassis and with the cargo tray integrated with the passenger body. However, present-day usage of the term "ute" in Australia and New Zealand has expanded to include any vehicle with an open cargo area at the rear;[1][2][3][4][5] which would be called a pickup truck in other countries.

No the problem is calling something a truck when it's wildly different to a truck, which requires a heavy vehicle license. Like I said you do you, but if you buy a truck here you need a heavy vehicle license and you can't drive it in town, because it's a truck.

Here in Michigan we dont need speed limiting tech. Our roads are so shitty you can barely do the speed limit on them without fucking you car up. Also this speed limiting tech doesn't fix one issue...... Road Rage. Not sure if thats an issue in the EU, but too many people here in Michigan have pulled out guns during Road Rage incidents. When I worked at BK, someone literally chased some one else in to the drive thru lane all because he was cut off on the freeway by this person. He also stated if his son was not in the car he would have pulled out is gun. Its not just driving fast that kills, its people that have attitude problems and others who just need their licences revoked.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Heavy vehicle is a specific class of vehicle that requires a special license, not a car license.

But ok sure, for someone who doesn't live in the region that actually created the name UTE you know best ?. I don't actually care what you call it but here you'd get laughed at if you went to buy 'a truck' or 'a pickup', the second of which is a word never used here.

more than 4 wheels - truck.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.

Maybe in Kiwi land.

But when a modern car weighs 1.5T, and a F250 weighs 2.75T, it’s a heavy vehicle.

Or we can do it the way it’s been done:

truck - large, heavy vehicle used for goods/material/large groups of people.

No production double axel pickups, nor is the Raptor a dually.

Most likely something that can be removed by modding the BCM code, or swapping the BCM altogether.

You guys are arguing about what is an what is not a truck.

Is the body on frame? Truck

Other wise no.

Little to do with appearance, like at all.

Alright, time to move back to Japan I guess. Even with their stupidly low speed limits, at least they aren't forcing this type of shizzle on us.

You're telling me some land rovers are "trucks"? Right......................yeah, cause a 4x4 off-roader is totally a frigging truck :)

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

That's also wrong. Body on frame, whilst common for large trucks, is not a core characteristic of trucks.

Pretty much is.  What most agree on is body on frame does classify a truck.

This is such a stupid fucking argument because there are no actual regulations on what is classified as a truck/SUV/convertible/van/crossover.

Not production? You can buy it, the current model is 2017-2019. I think you're looking for mass production, not that I am the one redefining the discussion or missing the joke. 6+ wheels = truck ?
