My club paid for my NPLQ so I was quids in, its about £250 for the course. Most of the members are minted so throwing that kind of money around wasn't a massive problem for them.

I work a shite job controlling traffic at road works sites. I live in the northeast US so right now it's a wee bit chilly to be out there. Thankfully the client I was working with canceled for today, but I'll be back out tomorrow (and was out yesterday). Other than that, I don't make money in any other capacity. Hopefully one day that shite job turns into my career choice (commercial pilot). I could make a killing doing p0rn, but you have to be attractive for that (so too bad for me).

Yeah the only thing that actually worries me is "industrial math" idk what the hell that even is, but I suck at basic math. Could legit hold me back from ever achieving my goal.

It's a fancy way of saying "cost effective problem solving using mathematics in various type of industry". If you indeed suck at basic maths, you best learn to unsuck if you want to be in a job where "industrial math" is a requirement lol.

I'll be honest, I have no idea where one would actually use that type of math being a pilot. I can easily see basic and a bit more algebraic. But beyond that, I really need someone to explain to me why it's required. I know a few people (some family members) who have their licenses, they don't see where it applies either (maybe I should look at a different school, problem is there's only one good one in my area and i can't afford to really move)

After a quick google, from what i can understand. It would seem they use the label "industrial math" (aka the "problem solving" i mentioned above) as just normal old problem solving using math, they just call it "industrial math" to either look professional with jargon, or it's the "inside industry" terminology they use etc.

 

For example using "industrial math": If your fuel burn rate is 12,000 lbs per hour and your destination is 8700 NM away and you have 187,000 lbs remaining. Given a predicted headwind of 110 kts to your destination, do you have enough fuel to make it with a required reserve of 20,000 lbs of fuel?

 

Just shit like that you'd have to calculate on the fly (excuse the pun) in case you have to say, detour to refuel, because you couldn't make the straight trip for "reasons". For example.

 

Note: i could be wrong, but that's the jist i get from my google-fu search.

Yeah, i couldn't find anything referencing actual "industrial math" on becoming a pilot (though lots on the subject of industrial maths itself) just lot's of "no need to be a genius, just decent at math" posts/threads.. So the only logical conclusion i see, is the school you're looking at is using the term because it's an industry term and it makes them look more professional.
