Louis is pretty freaking sick. Sometimes he gets a little out of control, but most of the time his content is top tier.

His tirades about Apple are annoying.  It's called survivor bias.  He never sees other brands in his shop because none of them are even worth or possible to repair, so he thinks that Apple is the only company with problems.

I wouldn't say apple is worth repairing at this rate. Not with all negative rules in place that hurt authorized repair facilities. Then you have the stupid system in place that is making repair so hard for linus right now. If you are not going to offer support (even paid) for everyone... then you might as well offer it for noone... hell if you aren't going to support you product then you might as well not even have a product to begin with.

Apple is too big and too greedy for their own good. It is only a matter of time until they fall. The Mac line is not impressive and is limited in functionality vs a regular pc. Their tablets are nice, but no better than all of the android variants on the market today, same goes for their phone line. Apple is just good at brainwashing your average fanboi into thinking they NEED that brand new Macbook because it has an extra USB-C port.

They have intentionally taken steps to force more proprietary software down every ones throat. Want to do forensics on our machines? Better buy our new solution! Want to have Mac's inside your network? Well you better spend money on our server offerings if you want real control. I mean the fact most people run a windows parallel on their Mac should make the situation pretty obvious. The only thing Mac REALLY has going for it is the fact less malicious programs target it than windows.

Or is it because other brands aren't as anal when it comes to servicing machines? Dell is among the best when it comes to enterprise support by sending a physical technician on site for repairs. Parts for other brands are also relatively easy to source, without being forced to go for back alley dealings.

That shows how much you know about him. the site he runs only offers Apple services next to data recovery.

Besides Apple is the only phone I almost always see with a crack... I'd say the market around here is about 30% apple 30% top tier Sammy and the rest various others. If I owned a iPhone I'd prob have replaced 10 screens by now vs one cracked one from a cheap huawei device that I just replaced with a new phone...

Cheaper yes, not really better. Linux is more of a sidegrade to IOS.

Why do they need to replace the motherboard exactly? Is that just a "let's see how difficult this is" part at that point?

True... Just googled to find out if it is actually possible to run Mac software on Linux, sadly not really... But truth be told it comes down to individual bases, so if all you do is word processing then Linux or Windows is better than Mac, for photo/video editing I've been told nothing is better than a Mac, same with graphics design. (which would make sense why Disney/Pixar is Pro Apple)

It's because apple products break often enough that it's a viable business, and there enough people who own apple products don't mind spending money to get their products fixed.

He also repairs other things, worked on an Antminer recently, and a GPU

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Louis Rossmann's service only repairs Apple devices, his rants are prestty justified since he fixes products that shouldn't break or fail intentionally so often for being a premium high end device. He has videos comparing a Thinkpad to a Macbook and other brands of phones durability to the iPhone.

The lesson learned here is that you shouldn't let idiot employees fuck with expensive hardware unless you're prepared to pay an idiot tax when the manufacturer doesn't bail you out.

We're fully willing to pay an "idiot tax" (though I certainly wouldn't call anyone on our staff an idiot - I guess it's nice to make sweeping claims about people you don't know though) when we need to fix something, btw. But in this case we literally had to get around Apple's corporate policies in order to even do that. Did you watch the video? :)

BUT IT IS NOT ILLEGAL. You guys decided to take it apart and you broke the warranty stickers and so apple or any of their service providers are not liable to help fix your iMac Pro.

If I see another video of you ranting away because of your $5,000 computer it will tell me that you and LTT have gone from a trusted tech reviewer to a man who makes unsupported claims to make money. If you want to fix it so badly go buy a 5K iMac Screen

Sincerely,

A long time Fan

Actually that would technically be illegal based on a recent ruling by the FTC: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-43724348 It goes against their policies, sure, but those policies are deemed "likely to be illegal" by the FTC.

Our claims are fully supported by our own experience, and experiences shared with us by the hundreds of people (AASPs and otherwise) who reached out to us after the first iMac Pro repair video we released.

The 5K iMac screen isn't compatible. We appreciate the suggestion though :)

Apple is going against A US Supreme Court Ruling that was against John Deere, Farmers were being denied the ability to buy parts, the Court Ruled once the object was bought it is yours to do with what you Wish as long as you are not Changing software, as in hacking it, the Ruling also when on saying that John Deere was in the Wrong denying people the ability from buying parts from them to fix Their rightfully Bought products in to repair said Products when the US Supreme Court Ruled this it not only applies to John Deere it applies to all companies across the States and those who ship products into the States

Looks like someone needed another large Apple hate thread. It's not hard to see what would happen if you made the video. This actually happens for a lot of products early on in the release. When I dropped my Galaxy Ace I was the first person in NZ to do so, and had to be sent to Germany for 2 weeks.

Compares Samsung repairing tablet as "worse thing ever" (2 weeks) to Apple not even offering to repair if paid for as "best thing ever" (Over 6 months!).

But... they're not the same scenario at all. :P

In your scenario you were offered an opportunity to have your device fixed. We were essentially told to go pound sand, and that there was nothing that could be done for us.

Only after ~6 months of doing work that no average person would be able to do (I doubt a post on a forum from a random user asking for help with a dropped iMac screen would elicit hundreds of replies, leading to getting parts in a super round-about way) have we been able to even come CLOSE to having a working computer again.

Also, I'm not really sure what you're trying to imply by saying "Looks like someone needed another large Apple hate thread. It's not hard to see what would happen if you made the video." - we're just giving our experience of dealing with an issue that shouldn't be this difficult to deal with. It's not like we're specifically attacking Apple just for being Apple, we're giving our story of dealing with their shitty policies as we have experienced them.
