that is what i have in mine except it is a lot more low end then yours but it did what it was intended to all those years ago and now my sister uses it for minecraft for the one reason that it runs faster than her phone

Ooof I went looking for a PCI graphics card for that thing and while some do exist that would be a big boost over the motherboard graphics they're hideously expensive due to their rarity now. I don't have anything half height in PCI to give away.

its cool.  she really doesn't realize fps or ultra settings or stuff plus that entire reason that she uses it is so she can outperform and brag to her first grade friends that she has a PC and they only play on the Ipad

Aw jeeze ok, I thought she was older for some reason lol yeah. I've got a bunch of i3 550's you're welcome to have a few for free if you want, that would blow the Atom out of the water and open up PCIe for a graphics card. Maybe in a few years when she moves onto competitive first person shooters.

Does a quad "core" motherboard with (up to) 16gb of quad channel ram count as "old and retro"?  Just got it shipped in from England.  spacer.png

Yes, I meant if you wanted some free parts for a new build for her. Can mail an Intel CPU for like $1.50 since there's no pins to bend. The i3 550 goes for like $5 shipped on ebay tho lol basically scrap these days. I don't know why I have like 5 of them...

no thanks. she is getting my xbox and my laptop because i am getting a tower so she is just gonna play on the xbox.  @Bitter The system currently has no purpose to me or my sister since my PC is coming on wednesday and my sister is playing on my xbox, but i appreciate the kind offer and you are very generous but you should give those parts to someone who actually needs them, Or if you dont  really know anyone to give it to put it on ebay for free and give it to a person who wants it the most.  That is what i will probably end up doing with the old system i own (ngl).  just pass it to someone who can use it.  But i appreciate you finding a fellow PC bro on the forum to give it to but i dont really need it.

That is a legend of a find! Question now is what do you plan to do with it and what are the specs?

not sure, it hasn't been booted up since 2005 probably. Mom says I can't mess with it since it has all our baby photos on it and she doesn't want to lose them. All my stuff is across the country (just visiting family for the covid business) So I might have to procure a cheap monitor to get this bad boy running so I can find out the shape it's in, get all my parent's stuff off of it, and see if it's in good enough shape to keep or if I should just part it out. If it's in decent enough shape I'd love to keep at least the case and either do major upgrades or gut it and build a new PC in the case.

Picking up a couple of 486's tomorrow. Don't know much about them, specs or if they actually boot.

They are Ast Bravo LC 4/66D"s

I decided to go for the 2. If both are working then I'll keep one and move the other on. If not then I'll get the best running and use the other for spares.

I will update when I've collected them.

I really don't know much about about them. I completely missed this era of computing. I went from 8 bit micros to Pentium.

The 2 I've bought are being sold as untested, so it's a learning experience for me. Really hoping they both work so I can sell on one of them and look for a graphics card and sound card for the other. At the price I've agreed I should get a good return.

First thing after checking the basics and cleaning will be finding out if they boot and getting a mouse and keyboard.

First look at the Ast Bravos.

I was told they have been in storage for over 20 years and were originally used to teach CAD. The CAD software should still be on them.

Apart from the expected dust, they look in good shape.

Has a cpu daughter board, so guessing 486dx2

Sound card as yet to be identified. Edit: Telesound DXLSK81

Label on the bottom says factory fitted with 8mb ram, but it seems 2 additional sticks have been added.

Looking forward to this project, after I've finished the 2 others I have in the go. IMG_20200626_133852.thumb.jpg.38a6e9755903049d1ea446942deae519.jpgIMG_20200626_134015.thumb.jpg.480466115a73840077de2fb8f121785c.jpgIMG_20200626_134047.thumb.jpg.1c0fe4d499306f61bcb9a35391c83c84.jpgIMG_20200626_134101.thumb.jpg.a6480367fb277b57b9ee905f7290c780.jpgIMG_20200626_134158.thumb.jpg.0a54a8fc59e9a72ed9d93ccba6687951.jpg

nice!  No battery damage!  Do yourself a favor and remove that button cell battery.  leaky batteries are the #1 killer of old hardware.

Lithium coin cells don't leak, it's the old NiXX ones that do... But yeah a replacement will be in order anyway :)

That's crazy. A Seagate from the last decade (or a little more). Logos used to be more visible on OEM products, now they put a letter only somewhere in most cases, on the SN or model number indicating the company initial.

It's still working too.

Ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  And those button cells *GENERALLY* don't leak, I have seen it happen, personally.  As someone with a garage full of old tech, removing batteries is something you do to EVERY system.

They look OK atm. Obviously with no charge left in them after so long, they will need changing.

I've believe they could be soldered on, so I'll take a chance that they'll not leak within the next few weeks.
