I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Turns out, it's not just the city here that's rude, i feel like the whole northern part of the state is rude. My dad came home yesterday from work 2 hours away and it's been keyed, gotten dents, bashed windows, and spray paint. that's totally fucking rude and i'm gonna find whoever did it. Good thing where my dad works, there's security cameras in the parking lot.

Here the highways are absolutely empty of cops, especially at night, and with long straights, you get to experience full speeds. It'll be a way I test my car next year for sure

that one time you go and there is a cop there.... xD

You guys were talking about police and speed limits a little while back. Just wanted to throw in my two cents....

Around where I live, most of the speed limits are way lower than they should be. I have no problem with a 50kph limit in a school zone, it should be. I'm talking about country roads with a house or farm every half km and the limit is 60kph. WHY!???

For the most part, people tend to drive at what ever speed is comfortable for them on a given road. The police only seem to enforce the limit if someone is going significantly faster or slower than the limit. For example, in a 80kph zone, if you're 95 or under, you're most likely safe. I've seen cops on patrol where I was going a solid 105 in an 80 and they didn't care. Same thing but even more so on the 4-lane highways. The limit is 100, but anything under 120 and you're safe. Heck, I PASS cruisers on the highway (slowly) who are doing 105-110 (where I'm doing 110-120) and they don't care. People fly by patrols at 130 sometimes and they don't pursue.

So then why are the limits what they are if they are so widely ignored? Well the limits around here were set back in the 60's/70's when cars could not stop or handle and are nowhere near as safe as they are today. Also, people need to understand; speed is not the danger. Difference in speed is the danger. The way the speeds limits are set and the way they are enforced causes problems. How so? Because some people know the cops don't enforce speeding within a certain range (example ~120 in a 100 zone, 95 in an 80 zone etc. you're safe) and I would say this is the majority of drivers (form what I've seen). Then you have those people who adhere to the limits no matter what (fear of getting a ticket or ?) and those are the people who cause the problems.

When you have a mass of traffic all traveling together at the same speed and come upon a slower moving vehicle, it causes an obstruction. People try to move, hit their brakes, the "accordion effect" takes hold and somewhere down the line, someone gets rear-ended or has to take evasive action.

My solution? Increase the limits where it is safe to do so (bump 60kph country roads up to 80, 80 zones up to 100 and highways up to 120) and ENFORCE those limits more strictly. +10kph? Maybe let you off. +15? Nope, you get a ticket. The majority of highway traffic flows at 120-130 as it is right now. Not necessarily because people know they can get away with it, but because most people are comfortable going those speeds on those types of roads.

Obviously everyone should drive according to the conditions/situation, but that's a whole other discussion for another time. ;)

I don't know how many times I've had to maneuver awkwardly at a 6 lane highway (3 lanes for northbound, 3 lanes southbound, speed limit: 60km/h min, 100km/h max) because some idiot was driving at 40km/h...

Driving way slower than the average speed of the vehicles around you makes you a moving obstruction for f*cks sake...

P.S. Also people who don't use their blinkers/signals or whatever you call them locally also put people in danger...

This... I have given up. Whenever someone in front of me slows down significantly with no turn signal (usually to turn right), as soon as they turn right I hold the horn down for a few seconds.... its so annoying

parking lots too... no one seems to use turn signals... then they just sit there and stare at you while you are wondering what they are trying to do lol

our speed limits here in louisiana are basically: 60-75mph for freeway, 55 for 2 lane roads, 45 for major city roads, 25-30 for the smaller roads and neighborhoods, and up to 65 for 2-4 lane road with a median that isn't a freeway,

and oddly enough gravel roads that aren't labeled the speed limit is 55 lol... not even joking

Oh, it's hilarious and scary at the same time. When there's a police car on the highway, THEY also cause an obstruction because everyone's afraid to pass them and you have a huge train of traffic behind them. If I can, I usually snake my way through and pass the cop car calmly and casually, then stay in the right lane after.

I've seen on numerous occasions where a cop is coming down the highway and people ahead of them will slow down (sometime hitting their brakes, IN THE LEFT LANE!), but they don't move over which causes everyone behind (including the cop) to do the same. This is SUCH a dangerous situation and is completely unnecessary. On several of these occasions, I saw the cop actually maneuver their way behind that person and pull them over for obstructing traffic!  At which point I just shake my head and laugh... ;)

Just go with the flow people!!! If EVERYONE is going the same speed, the police will not single you out and pull you over unless you give them a reason to. ;)

Don't get me started on double-parkers (especially those in "fancy cars").

My biggest driving pet peeve is people not accelerating on the on ramp. Trying to merge at 80-90 with traffic flowing at 120 is just a recipe for disaster. PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN!!!

I fucking hate people that don't even bother looking while they're on the on-ramp. I leave a wide open fucking space, all they have to do is LOOK and give it gas or slow down for half a second and fucking merge in.

Audi and BMW drivers are really disciplined here... It's the Honda drivers that I can't stand... and the taxi drivers... and the bus drivers... and the bikers... and the jeepney drivers... and the traffic enforcers...

People here don't care usually... I mean, I've seen drivers cut-off cop cars because the cop cars are driving like f*cking assholes and being a danger to everyone else on the road...

I tend to blend into convoys with police escorts if I can... just to shave 10-20 minutes off my 3-hour travel time...

Unfortunately there is no real way to enforce keeping the left lane clear and for passing only, and more often than not it's just drivers "tunnel visioned" into staying in their lane at whatever speed, completely unaware of their surroundings. You'd think they would take the hint when people overtake on the right at 10+ that they should maybe go into the slower lanes.

Doesn't help that there is so much variance in regards to flow throughout a single highway, and some drivers just don't adjust accordingly. 401 west of Pearson is a free for all in regards to speed, but between YYZ and the 404 (which is also pretty bad because DVP congestion and well, Markham drivers) GL managing traffic during the day. Construction season just adds to the chaos. Kind of makes me want to use the 407, if the toll costs didn't rack up so quickly.

Also in regards to double parking, I've seen some people start registering exotic cars as legitimate disabled access vehicles, which was pretty funny. Whether or not they get caught I dunno, but it does make you do a double take.

I vote my "plow em off the road" idea.

Honestly it just comes down to drivers being intelligent and learning (and acting upon) the rules of the road.

But yeah, it's all down to experience and not being a total dick on the road. With the pace of things in society today, people are just getting more and more impatient, and whenever there's an accident people feel obliged to slow down and look.

I'd imagine this has come up before, but oh well.

What's your absolute dream car?

If you could have any car on Earth. What would that car be?

For me it's a 2006 WRX STI. Absolutely perfect in my eyes.

There are many.. And i literally can't choose.

Project Jagdpanzer is still my most wanted car though. So i guess that.

But if completely custom built cars are out of the question i guess i'd pick the Rauh-Welt Porsche 930
