Is anyone waiting for Coffee Lake?

That's a massive difference in default clock speeds; likely everyone will OC the 8700k to a 4.2GHz minimum, something which is considered a lucky maximum for Ryzen 1700.

It will all come down to pricing and thermals.

 

The release of Coffee Lake will be next week.

the 8700K will almost definitely OC higher than 4.2Ghz. probably 4.8Ghz or maybe higher.

For people that already own Skylake/Kaby, it's not really worth upgrading. IPC will be identical, and if you are doing something that needs more cores, you are likely better off upgrading to X299 so you get additional PCIe lanes and memory bandwidth while you are at it. 

 

As for how high the 8700k overclocks, a delidded 8700k should have no problem hitting 5ghz according to people that I've spoken to, so basically imagine a 7700k with 2 additional cores with identical IPC.

 

It's great for those with an older platform like Haswell or Sandy/Ivy that are looking to get into a new platform, but it's benefits will certainly be less pronounced coming from Skylake/Kaby. 

 

The thing that interests me the most, is the IMC. Intel is claiming it's improved over Kaby, which already improved upon Skylake's. If that is the case, we might see dual rank DDR4 4000 become a thing.

Meh nothing amazing from intel coming. If they want sales they should actually bring something to the table AMD hasnt. Intel has higher clocks but they lack in other categories.

Nah, I'm not waiting on Intel anymore. IMO, they should focus on having high performance at a lower tdp.

The same way they advertised it the last time. Remember when Kaby was "13% faster than Skylake"? They used a very specific test, and the bulk of the performance came from them testing 2400mhz memory on Kaby, vs 2133 on Skylake (their official native support speeds). They also used the improved speedshift 2.0 response time in that benchmark, to prove Kaby was "faster". Combine that with Kaby's 7% clock speed boost, and you can see where that 13% number came from. Coffeelake will have 5% higher boost clocks over Kaby, so out of that "11% faster" number, 5% comes from clock speed alone. Next, Coffeelake supports 2666mhz ram instead of 2400, and they are likely going to tweak speedshift/cache slightly as well (remember, the 12t 8700k will have more cache than the 8t 7700k, so benchmarks that take cache into account will see that as a performance boost).

You really didn't. Threadripper is good if cores is your only goal, and heavy multi-tasking/content creation is all you do, but if you were buying an Intel CPU in the first place, it's obvious single core performance is important to you. Threadripper cannot offer anywhere near Intel's single core performance. We are talking 20%+ difference depending on overclocks. 

 

I dislike X299 quite a bit, but if you need both high core counts AND faster per-core performance, you have no alternatives at the moment.

Ok, lets talk about this.

I play alot and i want to play competitivly so 144hz+ is a thing. Which would be perfectly fine with a i7 7700k by its own which is fine.

 

But because i have alot of time and other poeple i play with dont im often on my own. Because being Online alone and play is a bit boring i tend to stream that i can talk to people while gaming.

 

Since im not running a dedicated streaming rig best i could do with a 7700k is like "veryfast" to "faster" 720p60fps with software encoding (x264) without losing to much fps. In that scenario a 8700k should be "huge".

according to my latest credible leaks (annoymous leakers) the 8700K will have a 3.8 base while the 7700K has a 4.2 base

Nah. I am just confused as to how people keep falling for this exact same thing year after year. People fell for it with Kaby over Skylake, and it's happening again this time around. Just because Intel said the 8700k will be 11% faster than the 7700k, does not mean an IPC boost is coming. CFL is based 100% on Kaby and Skylake's architecture. It's IPC will remain unchanged.

All 12 threads will hold a 4.3ghz boost if advanced turbo is turned off in the bios. If you have advanced turbo on, all 12 threads will run at 4.7. The 7700k's all core boost is 4.5ghz with advanced turbo on. The 8700k is faster all around from a pure clock standpoint.

What? I didn't quote a post at all when I said they had identical IPC. I think you may have mistaken me for someone else.

that's lower clocks than the 7700K, so IPC needs to go up for intel to remain the same in single threaded
