If it became more of a concern then yeah sure, we would benefit from a gene. But right now it doesn't seem like the best option.

Ultimately it does have to be a business decision... will we increase productivity by more than the dollar amount that it will cost?  If you lose power infrequently enough for the answer to be no, I guess I won't hold my breath for the "we got a generator!" episode of Holy S#!t :P

I thought most gaming was based on individual core performance? Isn't something like the 6600K/6700K more appropriate...? :/

 

ALSO: It would have looked way better if the set's monitor was moved so that Luke was looking to his left. That way in the video he would be looking at least more in the general direction of the main footage. <<

this is good stuff, i want to see more hardware benchmarked like this xD 

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

My type of video the Skyrim cheese one was one of my favorite things to do tho(only got around 100 before i crashed) i wonder would the Quadro6000 do better in this case becouse it has more ram then the Titan XP or worse guess i will never know though i was kinds hoping for it to show up but in all liklines it was sent back to nvidia it's after all a 6000 dollar card if damaged you still need to pay for it ohhh for that price i could build a small cottage :D in the woods don't worry not a ax murderer nope deffinitly not :D

I just remembered that this video reminded me of something... another test like the ones shown was spawning those large tugboats in GTA IV.  At least, in the early days.  When that game was new, you'd be lucky to get a few on the screen before it slowed to a crawl.  With today's computers you can easily make dozens and keep a playable framerate :P

i liked this , would have loved to seen more modern games that are actually using all hardware you toss at it

( gta5 and the gun that shoots cars would have been fun , just mini-gun the sky until it tanks)

I get the point of these tests is entirely for fun, not for actually testing the performance of your machine, but still, the way the tests were presented in the video was kinda stupid. Why?

 

Most of these tests aren't very multithreaded or GPU heavy. Tests 1 and 2 are physics computations and–to my knowledge–none even use GPU accelerated physics. Most physics calculations are single threaded CPU calculations (though I know not all of them are), and rely on calculation after calculation being performed on a single core. Test 3 used a game (Minecraft) that barely utilizes the GPU at all as well. Just "throwing in better hardware and seeing what happens" isn't too interesting. Instead, analyzing what hardware actually would've helped (like looking at CPU load core-by-core and GPU loads) would've been a lot more interesting. More varied tests using things like particles, fur, or whatnot (like the stupid large sheep test in ARMA III) would've also helped make the video more interesting. Showing ones that scale well would've also been interesting, as they could be used as alternatives to actual test programs like FireStrike for those of us who are too poor to spend money on a benchmarking utility.

 

Anyways, interesting idea, but poor execution.

 

Also, why would you place all the TNT by hand instead of using commands...

I am glad this video actually did see the light of day. Although most of them were heavily single/dual core optimized, those 10 cores probably didn't help any over a quad core.  I would love to see some followup video to see more in depth on which part was slowing down the system, and trying to improve it from there.

 

I know videos like this sometimes don't go super liked, but I enjoy them (even the pizza warming video, which I actually thought of before and thought it was super cool to see in action). @Slick

The reason is probably redundancy. Imagine if the main machine had a problem and *all* of your computers were affected. Not a great scenario :)

I remember a video around the release of crysis 1. A guy doing a few thousand barrel explosion. He coudn't even face the explosion(needed to turn 180*) or his system would crash. I would love to see whats the actual maximum though. And a huge improvement from barely impossible to 6fps in 9 years.

The other companies are much more "traditional" than us and don't have the same kind of reliance on power unfortunately :P

I think that at a certain point you hit the limits of the game engine rather than the hardware limits. My friend "benchmarked" Company of Heros by spawning 9000 AI at a time and his FPS was in the teens while neither his CPU or GPU  were even being worked that hard. RAM usage was less than 6GB og his available 24.
