I want a Carbon Nanotube SSD...

Fujitsu announced that it has licensed Nantero's carbon nanotube-based NRAM (Non-volatile RAM) and will participate in a joint development effort to bring a 256Mb 55nm product to market in 2018.The material itself switches between states in picoseconds (a trillionth of a second), but the DRAM interface limits performance to the nanosecond range (>5ns).  Other products also suffer limited endurance thresholds, whereas Nantero's NRAM has been tested up to 10^12 (1 trillion) cycles

TL:DR, what does this do for us???  More storage?  Faster?  Better endurance?  Cheaper?

Unless it will be cheaper than a HDD and have speeds like SSD, Sure.

I wouldn't expect to see it any time soon. Also devs barely use CPU cache now days and if they do it is not nearly to what it could be

Seems like it's more along the lines of non-volatile DRAM, I don't think it'll work like the SRAM used in cache. I could be wrong, but I think this would be a much bigger story if someone had found a way to cram 256MB of cache into a CPU.

SRAM, but the difference in production is negligible. It's just how power is handled.

They paid GloFo to take their last foundry. The expenses were too high and were eating far too much into profits. That, and IBM is swiftly taking over cloud integration. 

 

They didn't have the lead and didn't have the will to bring it to market when selling so few chips. Samsung and Intel have the lead. All IBM did is put a couple extra drops in a competitor it thought stood a chance.
