Google/Alphabet is about to become the most valuable company in the world, passing Apple, who has held the most valuable company for some time now.

 

 

 

The suite of companies that now form Google’s overarching powerbrand has been doing very well, and was valued today at over $500 billion, nearly closing the gap with its Silicon Valley rival Apple. Meanwhile, Apple has not been doing as hot. Humans simply are not buying phones like they used to, which could destroy Apple, since the company relies on iPhone sales for more than half of its revenue.

 

Just to clarify, they have not YET, but they are very close too, about $200 billion, which shouldn't take to long to get too.

This is probably due to how poorly Apple has been selling with the 6S/6S+, as some of you know it isn't selling as good as Apple expected.

 

This probably might bring some tighter competition between Apple and Google/Alphabet, which is a good thing mostly.

Wasn't Apple's value as a company overly inflated to begin with?

While obviously a very successful company making lots of money and having a big stockpile of cash, it does seem to me (no expert on economics) that a lot of these so called values and market caps are based on estimates, perception and expectations more so than actual value presently. Maybe I'm completely off here.

I guess the same goes for Alphabet.

It really actually doesn't surprise me that they aren't selling the 6S very well. I would imagine that the people just aren't able to understand between the 6 and 6S, so they don't see a reason to get it. especially because design wise they are identical save for the S variants being slightly thicker and heavier. I especially see that being the case because Apple has been running all these commercials lately that are literally explaining everything that they changed, because no one actually knows what the difference is. And I think the difference between the 4 to the 4S and the 5 to the 5S compared to the 6 to the 6S is that people were excited for Siri on the 4S and excited for the fingerprint sensor on the 5S, but everything that Apple updated with the 6S is way more technical and harder to really see an appreciable difference in, such as processor speed, app load times and 4k video. It's just really hard to convey that in a meaningful way in a commercial or even a one on one with an Apple employee in one of their stores that normal people will understand. Basically, Apple changed a ton of stuff under the hood that normal people just don't care about, so no one sees a reason to upgrade from an already respectably performing 6 to a 6S.

I doubt Google would care too much. 

 

Most companies have multiple revenue streams. If one doesn't profit, it doesn't matter, as they'll make up the losses through profits from other revenue streams. Amazon is the ultimate example of that, as they're a zero-profit organization: every bit of profit they do make is re-invested into expanding their number of revenue streams, increasing their potential for profits. More examples: Microsoft doesn't care about Windows Phone sales, as their primary profit and revenue comes from selling Windows OS and not to consumers, but to businesses. Intel doesn't care about the declining PC market, because their primary revenue stream isn't PC sales or custom built PCs, it's in the enterprise/servers/datacentre market.

It was only a matter of time, since Apple is only one company, as to Alphabet is a huge conglomerate with huge companies flying under one flag.

Samsung as a whole is a massive group of different "companies" yet they never got close to Apple. Even if Google hadn't done the Alphabet reorganization I'm sure they would still be breathing down Apple's neck.

honestly, what surprises me is that Google/Alphabet ISNT larger...

 

Google servers accounts for 30% of global data traffic (2012)..... meaning at some point, your data has gone through googles severs in some way to get to you...

different margins.

Apple can specialize in one field (electronics) which has huge overhead due to ridiculously low costs of parts.

 

Samsung on the other hand deals with other stuff, and also charity stuff (their hospitals and schools).... This is pure loss. Stuff like their Heavy Construction branch, which makes giga ships, can easily lose hundreds of millions if a project is delayed just a couple of weeks due to fines.

Yeah I haven't seen the numbers on this, but from what I saw, Apple not only sold more iPhone 6 models, but it was their most sold phone by far. So I don't believe this specific piece.

I know the latter half is true. Apple makes an outrageous profit on their smartphone line. From what I understand though, the 6s is still selling very well (didn't it break day 1 sales records?) and the reasoning behind Apple's falling stock is the companies latest direction in products. i.e. latest magic mouse, iPhone battery case, and of course the rumored, but the probably very likely, removal of the headphone jack.

Do we mean most valuable publicly traded company in the world? Because Saudi Aramco's lowest estimated value is twice what Apple is worth.

Well its understandable if non techies cant see the difference between the 6 and the 6s, which is abysmal in my opinion, the 6s has NVMe storage, a tremendous CPU/GPU(6 core if i am not mistaken) and the true gem is that they managed a much better battery life from the same battery with beefier specs. And the build quality has gotten better as well.

BUUUT it looks almost exactly the same alas the why should I buy the new iPhone if its the same thing mind set that non techies
