FBI exploits vulnerabilitiesd in old versions of TorBrowser to target Child Pornorgraphers

Cheesebaron

Source: http://www.wired.com/2014/08/operation_torpedo/

So what the article describes is that FBI uses exploits in old versions of Tor Browser or Firefox which it is based on, to run instructions on the victims computer. This is done through an iFrame with some JavaScript. Look up CVE-2013-1690 for more details on the exact exploit used.

Do you think it is ok for FBI to use exploits to lure out people who visit the wrong page? Maybe they visit it by an accident?

I think they can tell if it was an accident and you visited it once, or if you visit it regularly.

Well unfortunately the exploit is not only used on illegal sites, but on legitimate sites, where they are able to find out who people are based on MAC address. So if FBI is using their code on those pages as well, they might be tracking innocent people as well.

Anyone who'd click on that should probably be locked up anyway to prevent them from reproducing :P

Who doesn't want to click on a LTT forum link? :P

Only a total noob uses TOR with javascript enabled. Those types probably also visit their Facebook while using TOR as well.

I don't think you access child pornography on TOR by accident.

when looking at other porn on tor browsers, one occasionally runs into russian and czek sites that have links you cant read which occasionally have child porn on them. the key is to click away very quickly.

the thing is that this is an exploit on older versions of the browser

newer versions already fixed the exploit a while ago

and its stupid that they didnt update i mean there is a HUGE black sign that says UPDATE NOW when u open TOR
