Kopaka reacted to Monkey Dust in Linus Tech Tips...The Movie?
But think of the product placement opportunities!

Obviously, some changes will need to be made. Linus will have to become American, and a lot taller. Luke will have to become a hot woman. Instead of reviewing tech, they'll have to review guns, this will lead to them being called up to defend America against the Swiss. Once the warmongering Swiss have been defeated, 6'3" Linus will bang female Luke in front of the American flag. There's your movie.

Kopaka reacted to xManok in Madison reveals experiences working at LMG
So I‘ve been able to give LTT the benefit of the doubt for nearly anything right now.
What is worse is Maddison‘s statement.

    Here‘s a bad summary:
Maddison decided to leave LMG due to multiple reasons, all of them hitting her mental health at an „alltime low“
I‘m going to start with the simple stuff.

    1. “I was expected to post 3 tweet, 2 Instagram posts, and 2 TikToks minimum per day“.
    - Okay, kind of weird that she has to do so much work, anyone knows that‘s a lot (especially in terms of quality). This approach reminds me of younger LTT honestly.

    2. „I was consistently belittled by certain members of upper management. My work was called „dogshit“ I was called „incompetent“. When I would rach out to managers and try to get help with these situations, I would be told to „put on my big girl pants“ and be more „assertive“.“
    - Oh great, now even company bullies? What was that with unionising?

    3. „After enough complaints ((of the bullying)) from me, I was pulled into a meeting. In that meeting the writers room was pointed to and I was asked „do you think any of these people would have a hard time getting a job? I said no (keep in mind this was about a month into working there) I was then pointed out and asked „What about you?“.“
    - FFS… She even had to agree verbally to a „no drama contract“. A verbal one!

    4. „In this ((when agreeing to the contract)) moment I realized I was no longer considered part of the team. I was now a threat because I was putting up a fuss when I believed I was being treated unfairly and inappropriately.“
    - This is maybe the worst feeling for a lot of employees, especially younger ones. WTF?

    5. „A warning that came very shortly after I had come forward stating I had been inappropriately grabbed multiple times in the office, amongst other issues. I was barred from being in videos. So when you ask what happened? Why wasn't she in more content?
    This is why.“
    - I added this point because I am not very sure what she means by grabbed, it probably regards to the verbal contract but in a worse case SA… If SA there should have been multiple firings and also re-structuring. Did the other women face similar problems???

    6. „After it was publicly announced by Linus that he was hiring me (without my knowledge or consent to that situation) and also before I was even offered the job, or shown the salary.“
    - Very average Linus move. Still not okay.

    7. „It detailed that I was given incorrect information and would actually have to make changes to my plans if I wanted to continue being employed at LTT. This was AFTER I had moved entire countries and given up my visa status, I couldn't just go back.“
    - Shitty move, all it would have taken would be some kind of communication…

    8. „I was told I was bossy, when I was trying to be assertive. (like I was asked to do) I was told I was arguing, when I was trying to discuss my point of view. I was told to "calm my tits", "stop being such a bitch", and  other comments to similar effects.“
    - I wonder how many people there have to face this issue, especially the women there. I always thought they, you know, would be different than this.

    9. „There were numerous instances of misinformation being given to me purposefully to negatively impact my work.
I only know this because co-workers would tell me they overheard the actual information I should have been given.“
    - How could this even be? How is this possible?

    10. „I remember getting told off for taking my sick days, as in the days you're entitled to. This no days off, "grindset" culminated in the real moment I realized I had to leave. I purposefully cut my leg open so badly I would have to go to the ER to get it stapled back together.
    - The whole grindset thing is something that directly contradicts what Linus said on the WAN show. People should not work overtime/too hardcore if they are forced to, it should be because of pure enthusiasm. Did this miss Linus‘ radar because of ignorance or just because he‘s a part of the problem?

    11. „It was genuinely the only way in my mind ((the cutting)) to take a day off without being harassed for a reason why.
I had spoken to managers about how I was struggling, and how the workload was too much for one person.
But I was belittled and told "you just have bad time management skills".“
    - Nah, their expectations were just bad. What also upsets me is that no-one ever apologised to her. It‘s clear that Linus never really cared about the whole social media thing, and once the team realized that they actually do need a social media team, they did not apologise or anything to her for just overworking her. Sure, the team made mistakes but saying sorry is the very least. Have some integrity!

Again, there is more, and I really recommend reading the Tweet to see yourself how fucked-up this whole thing is.
I was seriously able to live by the GN controversy, but this is just so much worse.

I mean I'm capable of independent thought, so I have noticed these quality issues for years. I am still around because I get enough value watching LTT for entertainment instead of technical information. That continues to be the case, though I do hope they improve those quality issues. The "main thread" has further insights for those who care.

Kopaka reacted to djenson in Can we all please be a little sensible and considerate to each other
Some people seem to see these situations as an excuse to let it all out at someone, and that is horrible. I don't support Linus's actions, but imagine everything going from fine and dandy, to people saying your children should be forced to move out and then posting the floatplane sub count dropping almost like a game. Some people seem to want to see the downfall of LTT rather than the improvement the GN intended.

Kopaka reacted to RONOTHAN## in Are TFLOPS (Teraflops) a good indicator of graphical capability?
TFLOPS are like clock speed, within a generation it can kind be an indicator of the better card, but there's way more that goes into the performance of the card that just relying on that piece of data alone is not a good strategy. Look at the 4070 vs. 6900 XT. The 6900 XT is the faster card in raster performance, but only by about 5-10%. If you only use the floating point performance though, it's 50% faster (~50 TFLOPS vs. ~30 TFLOPS). The 7900 XT vs. RTX 4080 is probably a better example, the 4080 is undeniably the faster GPU of the two, but it has roughly half the floating point performance of the 7900 XT (~100 TFLOPS vs. ~50 TFLOPS).

If you're just looking at 30 series cards or something along those lines, it can be a decent performance indicator, but at the point where you're comparing across generations or across brands it just doesn't hold up at all.

PLEASE please please keep charts consistent!
There were several instances where processors were sorted highest to lowest in the stack, 100% fine, but then suddenly a slide comes along where the 7800X3D is on top making it so difficult to follow. I don't really care how you sort the charts just keep the CPUs/GPUs/etc in the same spot so it's easy to follow!

Let's say it's true you always have to wait two months for restocks. Then you'll still have the cpu for the same amount of time because you have to wait for the next one too, so it doesn't really make a difference. I suggest just taking time to enjoy what you have instead of being obsessed with having the latest and greatest.

Kopaka got a reaction from PetrusJPrinsloo in What computer is satisfactory for programming?
You may be able to do some stuff in rust, but if you're making apps and websites your developers will need to know a few others langauges as well. I'd start by hiring some kind of CTO and have him help deciding these things, including what machines to buy. But to answer your question, from working on these things myself the bottleneck I run in to most often is memory, so get 32gb if you can. They can be spendy though so if you get 16 at least make sure they're upgradable. For CPU fast cores is helpful for running various tools they'd need, so anything last couple generations. Amount of cores matter mostly when compiling which if you're doing things right you will be spending very little time doing, so it doesn't matter too much. Then you have to decide if you're getting machines with big screen and good keyboard or using external ones, I'd always suggest the latter for ergonomics. And two screens does help with productivity (laptop could be the second).

You can do it the way you suggest, installing git on the server to pull the files, that'll make it a little easier. The better solution would be an automated script that does that automatically (and any other thing that may be needed, like building or updating database). You can look into github actions which can do deployment automatically every time you push to a specific branch or on demand. Specific hosting services also have their own versions of this, such as azure pipelines or AWS CodeDeploy.

Kopaka reacted to Ravendarat in Labs PSU Testing Credibility / Conflict of Interest
I swear the "community" as of late exists only to make a mountain out of a mole hill. The video was sponsored by Seasonic, and that was disclosed. Does that matter, nope. Is it a conflict of interest, of course not. Is them talking to Seasonic about what kind of testing equipment to get a conflict of interest? Nope, its smart research. Seasonic is a forefront in the industry in regards to power supplies, why wouldnt you want input from some one like that. They arent making the equipment so they can weigh the machine to work better with their stuff, they are simply educating. Labs did their own research and chose their equipment layout for what they felt was needed. At some point some of you people are just gonna have to start trusting others until they give you a VALID reason not to. This whole "question everything/ everyone" attitude that is being abused lately is annoying and producing a lot of unneeded white noise. If you are sure that there is no credibility left in the world than go hide in a bunker and wait for the end because "the sky is falling" attitude is played out. I swear some people think that kind of thinking makes them smart, but you come off as the opposite.

I just tested it on my bike, I didn't go for a ride, but it seems quite stable. I don't think you'll have any major issues with rattling or falling out. The straight angle at the bottom makes it a little more difficult to put in compared to a normal bike bottle. Mine is without the spout lit, but even with that I'd guess it's a little more difficult to drink while riding since it'll be hard to open with your mouth.

Kopaka reacted to spannvis in Is it alright to have my system running 24/7?
There should be no problem to let your system run 24/7, with that said it's not an absolute but rather a relative fact.

If you use a mechanical harddrive in your system it is often better to let it run (spin) then turn it on and off too often as they are more likely to fail when starting, however, a hard drive will wear and tear more while running in comparison to be turned off and therefor not spinning. If you have a mechanical harddrive and are to not use your computer for more than 24 hours I would advise to turn your computer off. The same applies to all moving parts of a computer i.e. your fans and/ or pump.

It is also possible that, if your not attentive, a growing number of background tasks and programs will be running which will slow down your system however this does not happen if you are meticulous to turn off the program when you are finished using it. These are also possible to turn off from the task manager.

You will need to turn off/ restart your system at times in order to update your OS aswell, not only for new features but more importantly in order to receive security updates.

There is also the energy usage to be discussed. A turned off computer consumes less energy than a running one, even if it's in power-save mode. Which is good for both your energy bill and the climate.

    Hope this helped,
