I have one of those EP9's, bought direct and shipped to a local FFL.  It's not super spectacular, but it's pretty decent for the price.

Yeah, that's what I was going to test.  I work at a computer store, not a large enterprise.  We do both Home & Pro installs.

I agree completely.  I was just pointing out what was happening, not that it should be connected together.  There is zero reason for them to disable the remote start from the key fob.
If you ask me, it seems like engineers keep overcomplicating things.  They want so hard to come out with the next big thing, that they just make it more convoluted than it needs to be.  That's fine if it's limited to certain models, but eventually it makes its way down to even the most base models, which is why I stick to older vehicles.

This is why I never just "search" for something I don't understand.  If I really want to know, I use another browser in private mode.
You mean I can't have a phone with a built in nuclear reactor?  What is this world coming to?!
I hadn't seen that before.  Thanks for posting that.

None of this is new. Anyone that's been on old dial-up BBS systems can attest to that. The flame wars were pretty epic back then. Top quality stuff too. Not this watered down lame-ass shit that's on FB and twitter. I'm disappointed at the regression in creativity TBH.

It's not Torvalds business who is allowed to share on the internet. It's up to the individual to trust the contents or not.

We practice defensive driving because you can't trust the other drivers all the time. Cyber Security should be all about defensive computing. It's up to YOU to trust and verify. Otherwise, eventually your own trust in others will be misplaced and taken advantage of; and no one wants to be in that situation.

Absolutely, and the problem is that all the eco-mentals think that the next big battery or fusion breakthrough is tomorrow and so argue not to invest in nuclear tech.  Arguing against the only true green power source we have at our disposal because of what?  Media and ideologies.  WE are doomed!!!

It's called a "log". The sun charges up these trees and they grow taller and wider. Then you chop them down and cut into smaller pieces. Now you burn them. It's very carbon neutral.

Rest of the world has winters you know. Instead of having to dress up just so you can go through frigging cold to start the car and then shower and dress up while car is doing its thing, you would start it from inside your home. Yes, it's not a necessary feature, it's 100% convenience, but if this was some sort of super special remote system that relays through Toyota servers, I'd kinda sort of understand, though most companies would just give this as feature that would attract buyers to your brand. It seems Toyota just takes buyers for granted if they feel charging for actually local "remote" start functionality with a freaking key fob as a normal thing to do and not expect huge backlash from it. It's NO different than "remote" unlocking of a car using key fob. Imagine being charged per unlock. With a key fob. That's the level of absurdity here. They want to charge users local communication between key fob and car. It's insane. It shouldn't matter why you need to start a car remotely within proximity, it's why the f**k they want to charge us for it with subscription.

If it is so incomplete that basic functionality is still missing from the mainstream channel's version of the taskbar, why is the OS not in beta still?

Imagine if you went to pick up a new car and they told you that the passenger seats were not fitted because it was a new model. It wouldn't inspire confidence in the car manufacturer's ability to manufacture cars.
But in this case, Microsoft is doing the same kind of thing, while also doing the equivalent of breaking into the old cars to put stickers in them saying "switch to our new one, it's really good!" - and quite a number of people are just accepting it.

People came to these forums wanting help after they'd replaced the OS on their only desktop computer with the beta version - or, even worse, with the leaked version from months ago - and found it to be unusable, and the answer was simple - "don't install pre-release operating systems on your main computer". But there's nothing pre-release about it now, and seemingly very little has changed.

I wonder how long it will be before someone releases a 'Never 11' tool?
I've long told customers that they should wait a minimum of 6 months whenever a new OS comes out.  Even still, you always have those who see an update available, and click on it without paying any attention to what it is.
Hmm, interesting.  Thankfully, the BIOS version for my board is F61 (also a Gigabyte board), and the version with Capsule BIOS support is F62d.  Since I almost never install beta BIOS versions, I was able to avoid that.  Let's see how long I can get away with it before I'll be forced to upgrade.

When someone dies on the road, we normally call it an accident.  That is, it was an unfortunate event that took place due to human frailty.   Quite often when there is a pedestrian killed due to an unavoidable road event (tree falling), we do not blame the driver.  Again because of human frailty.  Once you have a car that is capable of calculating the best outcome and it chooses a path that results in the death of a pedestrian,  you then have a device designed to kill if necessary.  That is a legal nightmare.

I don't know where AI cars are going to end up, I don't know if humans are capable of developing an entire product set that puts humans first,  but if they start creating laws that make AI makers immune from legal repercussions then we will be going down a scary path.

At the moment, as far as I know, no country would allow this on the road.
I'm not convinced we'll ever get there without extensive communication between cars and road systems specifically designed to facilitate autonomous driving. I'd be glad to be proven wrong though.
This is a common truism but... people tend to forget that it's still humans writing the software. Car software in particular isn't known to be especially reliable...

After seeing radar based anti collision systems freak out when going in to a tunnel or freaking out in moderate to heavy snow. And camera based systems shuting themselves down in snow, fog and heavy rain. Camera based systems freaking out about crossing lines in the road (or not reacting at all) when it is snowy.
And autopilot/automatic criuse controls heavy throttle response/heavy breaking with no regerads to road conditions (specially in the winter). No systems regard to the possibility of a wild boar, deer or moose running in front of the car in certain environments. I’m very skeptical to autonoumus vehicles ever beeing a thing. Manual controls or no manual controls. Sure for designated patches of road but not as a general thing.

There are, and i also wouldn't buy a car like that either, in fact there was the 2016 Infiniti Q50 that had steer-by-wire originally but due to public outcry, they replaced it with traditional hydraulic steering.

I've seen enough demonstrations of "look, we hacked this car" to make me not want a car like that.

Disclaimer: I use Steam as my primary platform for PC games (I do use other platforms but it is what it is).

But let's be totally clear here: I constantly see posts about how users won't buy a game if it's not on Steam. Hell, even sometimes they outright say they will pirate the game rather than buy it from Epic or the Microsoft Store, etc.

I definitely think there's some merit to these claims. Steam might not be a technical monopoly, but they're pretty damn close.

With that in mind, balance must be gained between the business interests of Steam vs the consumer interests of everyone else. This isn't black and white. Steam isn't good nor bad. It has both good and bad aspects. Something needs to be done, but it doesn't necessarily mean Valve loses control over their own platform.

I don't necessarily view that as a significant factor, because PC users aern't locked into only using Valve games the way Apple users are locked into only using the Apple store (no side loading).

Valve is a significant share of the PC gaming community sure, but it didn't get there by buying out competition and shutting them down, getting exclusives from developers, or paying influencers to advertise their services. They just provided a good game store and users have bene using it for over a decade.

Just today we were driving and the brand new Apple iPhone said to stop halfway in the middle of the highway for a stop sign (at an intersection)
I'm not trusting a stupid "self-driving car" with my life. Imagine sitting in one of those things as it drives and stops in the middle of a highway saying it's at a stop sign and getting t-boned. My 81-year-old grandpa go t-boned and he got badly injured. Thank God he's healed now.

@AnonymousGuy might be coming on a little strong with his statements, but I agree with his general sentiment.  LN2 OC'ing might be interesting for bragging rights, but it has absolutely nothing to do with everyday usage that 99.999% of users will care about.
