You can get a decent one for under 2k AUD. For uni use I'll prefer light weight

    All with CFL-H CPU:
MSI GP63 - check whether it has 120HZ panel
HP Omen DC - 144Hz panel only available in higher priced variants
HP Pavilion Gaming - OK-good build quality and cooling, optional 4K panel
Metabox N950TP - desktop CPU, a little bulky, OK-good build quality and cooling
Metabox P950EP - mediocre cooling due to thin profile (needs LM)

Some options have either bad cooling or lower build quality (or both), therefore I didn't include them. Remember to undervolt CPU+GPU, 8750H is a hot chip

Inline volume controls are usually just a variable resistor, the changes in sound are because of the volume control messing with the impedances. Results may vary depending on the implementation/capabilities of the amplifier.

You can but it's not really a good idea. You get an effect called "interpolation" which makes the screen look blurry and just off, it'd look worse than a regular 1080p screen.

Talking more hardware here for a little bit. There are a few things that do bother me on that side too which one does have to consider since you have no choice but to accept it really.

I will be forever salty until Apple let me have a matte screen on their laptops again. It doesn't make sense to put a glossy panel on a computer designed for content creation work. Also their quest to ignore the existence of heat is ridiculous. IMO the "retina" line should have kept the same thickness as the DVD MBPs but just used that room for improving cooling. I've not had an Apple laptop last for more than 12 months without hardware issues and I'm willing to bet those temperatures the components reach is to blame. It does get very hot here but my friends who have cheap as cheap windows laptops that are 8 years old and still work fine, why can't a much more expensive product do the same?
This is something I miss every time I have to use a Mac. Their version is a joke really.

Oh god Yosemite. I currently have a 2013 Macbook Pro for the Apple side of things and that thing was rendered useless after updating to Yosemite, it was so bad I 100% switched to Windows. I have a feeling that update was cursed.

Windows probably requires a bit more care and work to be set up and maintained than OSX but I'd take that over Apple hardware nowadays. Setting and forgetting is nice but 90c+ temps and loud fans aren't so nice.

It's an OS you can use without thinking or caring too much. That said, I wouldn't say that it is worth the trade off in hardware or lack of program support  that comes with it. As a no fuss option it's alright, as long as you're okay with using your computer the way Apple wants you to.

Hard to say as everyones Head is a different size, I find the HD558 super comfy and haven't had any "pain" caused from to much clamping force. Can't comment on the AD500x's as I haven't used them.

    - those who have bad internet. though games as of late just have a disc with only the key + authentication on it. not all games do this of course.
    - lossless playback, such as 4K Blu-ray or FLAC. Or vinyls. so more for film/music buffs
    - old stuff, like early 2000s games. I am currently searching for a game that only comes in a disc

I think what's going on here is that they're masquerading acts that they consider and brand as  "pure" or "righteous" to push their goal while having much more malicious ulterior motives going on. Some groups may be uncomfortable about going against these actions and any groups and organisations that do so would be easy targets for the Murdoch media. I'm not putting my own hand on what's right/wrong with regards to the content being blocked but just stating that conservative/traditional media and conservative/traditional individuals may roll their eyes at those who try and fight this, and they might think it wont harm them. This is what the government want. They may know this and see this as an opportunity to begin a process of serious internet censorship. Once they take this first step, it's a lot easier for them to take the next. UK peeps, if you don't know a second language, now might be the time to start learning.

TL;DR., My theory, Cameron is using the "Ban porn to protect children," front to push serious internet censorship in the UK.

FoxyOrange reacted to TheBestUserName in PSvita screen
There's no "blind spot bias."  Replacing a windshield is straightforward regardless of the vehicle. There are no screws, nothing to open, nothing to disconnect, it's a simple lift-and-replace.   Replacing screens involves opening the device, dealing with ribbon cables, screws, connectors, and anything else that might be in there.  So.. c'mon.  My analogy was pretty sound.

The analogy notwithstanding (that's not the topic at hand), if an iPhone repair shop doesn't repair PlayStation Vitas.... then they don't repair PlayStation Vitas.  They have skills and experience in certain devices and are more than likely guaranteeing their work. If the technician has never worked on a Vita, then his confidence and skill isn't going to be as strong.  Let alone the fact that the shop might not have supply channels for parts, a desire to get them, or the ability to guarantee the work.

If I'm a Windows Windows technician for a living, and some one brings me a Linux or OS X box and asks me to fix it, I would tell him no even if he says, "But it's the same thing. Same PC parts, and it's still an operating system."  If he asks me to learn it or buy supplies to work on it, I'm going to tell him to take a hike -- that's not my business model.  Any respectable technician would say the same thing.

If you don't like that, then we can agree to disagree.

Paypal is what you are looking for, but it requires a credit card/bank account. Where are you getting your money from? Cash?

Otherwise, you can usually buy gift cards (temporary credit cards) with cash from local stores. That would work as well.

    In-ear: Shure SE215.
    Over-ear closed-back: Audio Technica ATH-M40x, Sennheiser Momentum On-ear.
Over-ear open-back: Sennheiser HD 558 (my personal recommendation, but unsuitable for listening in an outside environment)

In-ear headphones are the most suited for listening on the go. They naturally isolate sound, are extremely portable, and can provide an incredible listening experience. They're also often more reasonably priced for the performance you get. They often feature the smallest 'soundstage', because the only room reverberation is inside your ear canal, making it sound like you're listening to everything in your ears. The Shure SE215s are the exception to this rule, but there's no use pretending that they sound as open as bigger, over-ear headphones. They're just on part with some closed-back ones. Furthermore, they will leak the least sound, as their speaker cones (diaphragms) are tiny. Loud enough for inside your ears, but inaudible to the next person.

Closed-back over-ear headphones are a little bulkier, but they have a slightly larger soundstage. While not truly open, they sound more like you're listening to your music in the confines of a small room, rather than right in your ears. They will also insulate you from outside noise, but not as much as in-ear headphones. They also leak a little more sound and will be somewhat audible to people sitting next to you, but so long as you listen at reasonable volumes, it still won't be enough to disturb most people. My recommendations in this category are the M40Xs you mentioed and the Sennheiser Momentum On-ear headphones.

Open-back over-ear headphones are my personal favourite for listening, but my least favourite for travelling. Open-back headphones feature an open-chasis, where the speaker is not closed around your ear with a plastic or wood cup. As a result, these produce the widest possible soundstage, making it sound like your music is in the room around you. However, they block almost no outside noise, and they leak sound like a pair of speakers. While they provide the best possible listening experience, they are not suitable to use outside of your home. These might not work for you, but if you choose to get a pair of them, my recommendation at your price point is a pair of Sennheiser HD 558 headphones.

I love Toradora! (I think there's supposed to be a ! in the title) as well as Spice and Wolf.  ?

Those were two of the first anime I watched.  Lots of funny and heartwarming moments in both.  Though they also have some drama to tug at your heart.

If you're looking for more things to watch I'd suggest Shiki, Strike Witches, Girls Und Panzer, and Attack on Titan if you haven't already seen them.

I could suggest other anime if you ever want to PM me or tag me in this thread.

    What's overboard about the end?

Gurren Lagann is pretty great I'd say.  Especially Yoko with her rifle.  I really like sniper stuff like that.

Samurai Champloo is pretty good though I could do without the hip hop stuff in it.  ?

FoxyOrange reacted to killcomic in 3rd World Countries?
Technically the term 'third world' meant countries which were not aligned under NATO or the Warsaw Pact during the cold war.
Since then, the term has been hijacked as a derogatory term to classify countries which are not deemed as being developed. There are no real measurements to classify a country as third world these days, only developed, developing or underdeveloped.
