johnny5c got a reaction from whm1974 in Are the Hot Wheels PC's actually rare?
Very rare these days, I sold just the speakers, wheel, and pedals that I found at a garage sale for over $200 a couple years ago.

Instead of using a hub and having to worry about rollover why not just use a few extension cables and keep the ends tied up somewhere that's easy to reach.

johnny5c got a reaction from ahuckphin in Good bang for the buck scaner
The problem is if you're scanning A3 size paper you'll need a wide format scanner which is isn't compact or cheap. If you don't mind buying used I'd look for something like a Mustek A3 2400S.

johnny5c got a reaction from BiotechBen in I can feel slight electricity from my pc case screws, what could be the cause?
Does your 3-prong to 2-prong adapter have a tab with a hole on the 2-prong end? If it does it's possible to ground it through the outlet cover plate screw. In the US most older homes with 2-prong outlets have grounded metal boxes that uses the BX cable's metal conduit to establish a ground back to the breaker/fuse panel.

johnny5c got a reaction from alex75871 in HDMI patch cable incompatibility?
I just ran into the same problem when I upgraded my parent's projector, they built their house with a home theater in 2005 when HDMI 1.2 was the standard. I replaced the original Sony 1080p projector with a new 4K model and the exact same issue happened, regular HD worked fine but the second you enabled HDR it went blank. I have a new temporary 2.0 cable running from the A/V rack to the projector and everything works but going to have to replace the in-wall run sometime this winter.

johnny5c got a reaction from Bombastinator in Dashboard mounted gimble or other stabilization.
Our local Sheriff and his partner do a weekly live stream using a iPhone facing out the front of their patrol car. They're currently using a basic phone mount with window suction cups and the footage gets a little choppy especially during high speed chases. A group of us local business owners are chipping in to upgrade their phone and at the same time I'm trying to find a better mounting solution like a powered gimble or other shock suppressing mount. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hardware wise you're good but do you really need a 3080, what monitor do you have?

johnny5c got a reaction from Kilrah in Laptop battery life suddenly halfed.
Mine like the OP's was only a few months old when it happened, it has nothing to do with care but is a defect in the pack like a failed cell or broken spot weld.

For that length I would go with a 14AWG over the 18AWG power cable you linked,

You could run 4x 4TB drives in RAID 5 for 12TB of usable space and the ability to replace a single drive without loosing any data.

johnny5c got a reaction from umbralknight in Best Noctua CPU cooler for Ryzen 7 3700x in a Corsair Air 240 case?
You're welcome. I have one in my Silverstone HTPC case and it and it's about the best one under 120mm, just make sure it will clear your RAM.

I personally would go with a NH-C14S with the fan mounted underneath.

Shure 215, I have a pair and would recommend them for your budget. Add a pair of their triple flange sleeves if you want more isolation.

johnny5c got a reaction from nootnoot1277 in How to calculate PSU load?
I had a XP 2800 and a Radeon 9250 in mine and the included 220 watt PSU was stable but ran hot and only lasted a few months. I upgraded to a 300 watt unit and it ran 24/7 for years as a DVR with a WinTV card.

johnny5c got a reaction from nootnoot1277 in How to calculate PSU load?
I had almost a identical setup with a Shuttle bare bones for my first HTPC and you're probably pretty close on your calculation but because the Flex ATX PSUs have such horrible cooling I would go with a 300 watt unit.

johnny5c got a reaction from Minorika in what intstruments can i plug into a scarlet solo?
Basically anything. The switch for that input has two settings, use "Instrument" for un-powered sources like a guitar and the "Line" setting for stuff like keyboards and drum machines.
