Is this ok? upgrade for an fx-8320 system

the_jonas

I currently have a desktop pc, with an amd fx-8320 "eight-core" processor 3.50GHz, 16GB of DDR3 ram, and a rx 480. Furthermore I have a 2TB hdd and a 500gb samsung sata ssd. I use an 4k 60hz monitor.

This is what I am looking to upgrade to:

MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX AM4 € 105,90*

500 Watt be quiet! SFX-L Power Modular 80+ Gold € 89,10*

16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX für AMD schwarz DDR4-3600 DIMM CL18 Dual Kit  € 98,84*

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8x 3.60GHz So.AM4 BOX € 289,00*

(I will upgrade my gpu later, when my budget allows it :))

I just wanted to make sure that this is an good idea and that I am not doing anything terribly wrong.

Thank you!

Depending on what GPU you plan on getting in the future I would go with a little bigger PSU like the 600 watt version of the one one your list or a Corsair SF600.

Thanks for the advice, do you think keeping the old psu would be an option?

You don't need a SFX sized PSU if you're keeping that case, you pay a premium for the smaller size so something like a CX650m would be a better choice.

I agree here.

a Corsair RM550x is also a solid choice and will be enough for a decent gpu in the future

Yeah, I have been watching prices and availability and might consider buying a rtx 2070super or rtx 2060 super or rx5700xt. I haven't bought one yet because I am currently mostly playing less gpu demanding indie games and haven't found a great deal (in Germany) yet.

first upgrade the cpu. the fx 8320 is pretty bad. is the rx 480, 8gb version? rx 480 will run games at 4k 60fps on medium. rx 5700XT will give you much more performance. RTX 2070 super is 20% more expensive than rx 5700XT but only 0-5fps better in 4k

If you plan on gaming at 4k don't upgrade the cpu all you need is a GPU upgrade, but that's if you are going to play at 4k
