The Alienware Area-51 gaming rig just got a strange redesign with x99

The Area-51 isn't small, but it now has a new triangular... hexagonal... something-between-the-two design, intentionally hewn that way to maintain airflow and keep it cool, even when positioned against a wall. It's certainly come a long way since the tower desktop days of 2011. Given its size, two of the corners have handles to lug it around with -- we hope you can bicep-curl 45 pounds though, because that's how much it weights. It also looks nothing like Alienware's incoming Steam Machine. (Ironically, the new Area-51 chassis looks far more "Valve," in a lot of ways.)

Inside that space-age shell, there's support for up to three full-length graphics cards, Intel's best and brightest Core i7 six- and eight-core Haswell-E CPUs -- all overclockable and liquid-cooled. All the above is backed up with DDR4 RAM support. The early announcement unfortunately didn't cover pricing or release dates, but expect to see the machine later this year. Oh, and the new model also has nine separate light-up zones for customization.

uhhh wtf is with that case?

In my opinion they were already fucked up before the launch, alien ware always had un 'ideal' look to it.

There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Just some helpful stuff: You're - You are, Your - Your car, They're - They are, Their - Their car, There - Over there.

Still better looking than either console, albeit overpriced. I really hope alienware and the other boutique builders wake up and start selling just cases, I'd pay for some of alienware's cases, just not the tech inside.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Tbh,I actually like it. Breaks away from the monotonous boring square/cube shape of typical off the shelves pc case.

"I'm sorry but I will say it upfront before all the hype and questions that this case will not sell separately. Due to possible upcoming demand, we will have a exclusive 1000 system run. I'm very sorry to those excited and eager customers desperately wanting this unique one-of-a-kind system. ." -Alienware
