Both are Tier 1 PSU's, the best of the best really, so I'd get the better deal of the two. But I believe that the Seasonic Prime Gold PSU's have 12 years warranty versus Corsair's 10 years (if you even keep your system that long).

The Seasonic Prime series competes more with Corsair's higher-end series (RMi, HXi etc.). The Corsair RMx competes more with the Seasonic Focus Plus series.

There are Cybenetics reports and certifications for both. Report for Seasonic Prime Gold 650Report for Corsair RM650X.

The Seasonic scored Lambda S++ for noise, while the Corsair was rated much quieter with Lambda A++. And IIRC the fan used in the Prime is known for lower quality, and becomes noisy over time.

Which is a useless point because noise will vary between different people and their setups, and each brand sells some loud and quiet power supplies.

If you value quietness, yes.

Your full system specifications and location would be helpful.

There are some people complaining about fan noise with the Seasonic.

As always people recommending seasonic just because it's seasonic!! it's reputable!! it's high quality!!

even when the RMx is quieter and has been proven to be a good performer

Don't trust people that generalizes everything by brand, obviously every brand has different models and you can't expect those models to be the same.

Well yeah, because it's made by seasonic.

Corsair just gets someone else to build it for them and they rebrand it, which isn't necessarily bad, but unless you do research you don't know who makes it.

Also it's not quieter, most seasonic PSUs have 0rpm up to like 40% load, just like corsair.

PS- I replaced my AXi with a seasonic platinum after the AXi died and took half of my PC components with it.

and so what makes seasonic special? they use the same stuff as the competition

What's the problem with that? If corsair goes with a super high-end platform from delta/flextronics or whoever who cares if corsair doesn't make them? Besides corsair actually has engineers that work together with the OEMs so it's not like they do nothing for the final product.

3 minutes ago, Enderman said:

And is that really important? it all comes to the platform, no matter what OEM you work with, if it's their lower-end platform it's not gonna be as good as a good platform from a "less reputable" manufacturer

That means NOTHING, semifanless mode was made to brag, some PSUs that claim semifanless mode are only quiet while the fan is not spinning, and then it goes wild.

This is a good example, fanless mode only works under 50W of load.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/evga-supernova-650-g3-psu,5533-5.html

depending on how you look at it it could actually be worse than having the fan spinning slow at load loads. Because fan not spinning means no air, I'd rather have a fan spinning slowly since it won't be heard anyway.

Now I see what's the problem, you got a defective unit and recommend against corsair.

I'll tell you what, ALL psus can fail and it's because you had a bad experience with a certain unit from a certain series doesn't make the whole brand bad. Because you are only speaking from a very specific situation.

1) reputation and actually good quality, you need to read some more PSU reviews huh. Everything down to the placement of components, quality of solder joints, etc.

2) Well if they went with seasonic that would be great.

3) When a PSU is using the latest technology and design it's good to know that it has been made by a company that knows how to make the best PSUs.

4) then go read reviews.

5) Well if you really care about silence get the seasonic titanium 600 fanless PSU. Probably the best fanless PSU on the planet.

6) You can't spin fans super slow, at least not the yateloon ones that my AXi had.

7) I still recommend corsair PSUs to people because they are good, what happened to mine was an isolated incident. However I recommend seasonic PSUs over corsair/EVGA because of the massive warranty, tons of 9.5/10 and 10/10 reviews (of course it varies by model, so you have to look at reviews of exactly which one you plan to buy), other people's experience with seasonic PSUs, etc.

So if OP can afford it, I would definitely recommend a higher end seasonic one. A PSU is one of the most important components of a system.

Oh sure! there's the S12II and M12II, which are group regulated and loud, and also don't have a proper protection IC

then there's the focus gold which have issues with certain graphics cards and they also make the EVGA GS which doesn't have OCP on the DC-DC models.

what for? the AXi made by flextronics are the best consumers psus as of right now and even CWT RMx/RMi and HX are hard to beat

corsair has digital psus since 2012 while there's no single digital seasonic branded psu (aside from the nzxt E which was released a few months ago) so I certainly don't know what you mean by that

EXACTLY! THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THE DISCUSSION! YOU CAN'T SAY X POWER SUPPLY IS BETTER THAN Y PSU BECAUSE IT IS MADE BY A MORE REPUTABLE MANUFACTURER, THAT WAS MY ONLY COMPLAIN
