Android Phones Are Basically Used As Dumbphones

Gunzkewl

Wow somebody's an Apple fanboy.

Android tablets have been rapidly taking marketshare from Apple. I don't particularly care, as I don't find tablets useful, but people DO buy them. There's a reason Android is on 1.2 billion device.

I prefer the title 'troller of the Android zealots' and will happily troll android users with a mixture of harsh opinion and brutal facts

An apple fanboy would own more than an iphone and a couple of old ipods.

Dumbphone or not, free games and facebook come with ads. So....why complain?

stupid people who don't know how to analyze statistics. :(

This doesn't mean anything, you cannot create an entire culture type from a statistic based on one possible device function,  that is absolutely moronic.  If you want to concentrate on what the shopping side of these statics mean then you have to look at the small sub group with the higher sales figures and compare that to the larger group with lower, which indicates that the normal use for a smart phone is not for shopping, and that there is only a correlation with Iphone users and spending more.  There is no way you can extrapolate that either group is using their phone to an appropriate level from this data.

However if you compare the iphone market share demographic to android you'll see that half of iphone users are 12-17, big online spenders compared to the business people and the everyday populace.

Not an absolute but it definitely explains the figures better than just assuming android operators don't use their phones to there full potential.

Because the $5 App on an iOS product...is a FREE App on an Android device....and I can relate to this.

I personally wouldn't buy expensive things from my smartphone (i.e. a $230+ motherboard)...because I'm that old-school...and you can't do anything about it!

I use my android phone for calling, texting, music and reading emails. That is it.

I don't have a credit card, so I don't buy paid apps. And I don't need them either.

exactly, you don't need a credit to buy online, and I am sure majority of LTT members have a paypal account or at least an account with itunes/googleplay.

There is a LOT of opinion in this article. No real hard facts to back up his claims. And to his one big 'argument' there is a lot of piracy in the android community, and there is also a lot of free apps as well. Android phones are dumbphone replacements, but then again so are iphones. Everyone upgrades at one point  <_<

Oh howbout the flagship android phones?

I don't care about how people who buy iphones spend more money through their phone when comparing to someone who owns an android device with a 320p screen and a 600mhz single core processor.  The comparison is beyond useless.

All I have to say is that more simple people use iPhones. I use a Android Phone and love it. I play Emu's watch movies and download my files to my phone. My Grandma who dosent get how to go trough files on Android OS's might get confused because all she's ever had was a iPhone.

The specs of the phone have nothing to do with it, so long as it can browse the net, you can shop on it and the users can be compared, however the conclusion this bloke has made is wrong, just not for those reasons.

That article and the conclusion drawn by the writer is beyond stupid....I've owned mostly flagship Andoid phones and have some credit cards but have never bought apps thru the phone simply because:

1. Many of the apps I want and/or need are free

2. I'm uncomfortable using the phone to send credit card details and such.

3. Not a hipster nor do I pretend to be one....

Just in: iOs users are found to be incredibly easy to squeeze money from. Research data has shown that the average Appletard is 6 times more likely to purchase random, useless junk whilst on their phones. This correlates to a real world spending of double that of an average android user.

Need cash? Design an unsuspecting app, and market it to iOs users.

Not sure how people are confused on this, but we ARE NOT talking about app sales... This is about buying things from online retail stores from your phone.

My grandparents have Android phones because they cannot get a normal phone anymore, so that explains a few of the no-sales... I think all this really proves is that people who own an iPhone are less likely to own a computer and have no other option.

Wait so the only thing that defines a dumbphone vs a smartphone is the fact that i can shop on it?

Totally logical. This is why i think that everyone should be required to take a statistics plus logic and reasoning class in high school/college.

Because Android users have the intelligence to know its much easier to shop from a computer than a phone.

Really? I've bought plenty of stuff from my phone while traveling. Its nice to stay in really great and expensive hotels that take deliveries, don't you know. Does that make me less intelligent then you?

I don't think he's saying that a phone is a dumb phone if it lacks the ability to make a purchase, but rather is the user willing to buy stuff on their smartphone which is totally idiotic. He's defining a phone based on the user and not the actual capabilities of the device.

Also I think people with iPhones have more money to spend in general.
