Is GTX 1070 enough for a 1440p 144Hz monitor?

justinm517
Go to solution Solved by Skiiwee29,

it will do 1440p no problem, but will probably struggle to hit 144fps without turning down graphical settings in most games.

As the title says. I'm building an editing PC, and I was wondering if an MSI GTX1070 would be enough for a 1440p 144Hz monitor (https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-24-gaming-monitor-s2417dg/apd/210-aizs/monitors-monitor-accessories). Although the monitor I've chosen can go up to 165Hz, I'll turn the monitor down to 144Hz.

If a 1070 isn't enough, which GTX GPUs are strong enough?

If it matters, I'll primarily be using Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Lightroom.

Thanks.

If you are willing to drop the settings in AAA games down to medium, then yes it will.

If you want to play at 1440p 100+fps at ultra settings you are going to need a 1080ti/rtx 2080/rtx 2080ti for that.

If you're not playing 3D games it is fine.

I used it with PhotoShop, Illustrator, 3d Max & LightWave 3D.

It is not a heavyweight. I used CPU for rendering.

I'd consider a 1070 Ti since it's boost in performance should really help out, once overclocked you'll be looking at very similar numbers to a 1080.

This video should help you out:

Depends how you define "enough". 144 fps on Ultra? Probably even 2x 2080 ti won't be fast enough for that.

But you don't ahve G-Sync for nothing, games will be smooth at either fps - it just depends how much fps you personally need in which games.

And how far you are willing to reduce Settings.

i've had a GTX 1060 with that Monitor, and i made it work.

Now upgraded to 1080, works even better. And still, even with literaly 2x more fps, i wouldn't hit 144 fps in all Games.

But this is only Gaming so far.

You only said you use Adobe products? These are not games. Even a GT 1030 for 60 bucks will do that just fine.

On the other hand, for mainly Photo editing, a TN Monitor was the wrong purchase.

I have a gtx 1070 FE and a 1440p 144hz monitor, and to play pubg around 120 to 144 fps i play with everything on very low except anti-aliasing(medium) and textures(ultra). In r6 siege i have everything on verylow and get 110-120fps.

So if u prefer fps over quality you should be fine.

That's good to hear, thanks (I was afraid that I might have to get a 1080).

Gtx 1070 is enough for 1440p high settings at 70 to 90FPS in most newer games.

If you can spend a bit more and get a 1070ti or a 1080 it would last longer and be better.

i think you should get a 1080. I have an MSI 1080 gaming X and it can do 90-100+ FPS on Gears 4 (Ultra settings, no overclocking).

I have basically that PC except I have 16gb of memory instead of 32, and my monitor is a 1440p 144hz gsync, and I have a 1080 instead of a 1070ti. It runs basically everything I've thrown at it at ultra preset 60fps at 1440p, and turning things down to high I usually get around 90-100fps which is where I usually like to be. If you actually want 144fps, you'll really want a 1080ti, 2080, or 2080ti. You'd have to turn settings down to medium or low with a 1080 or 1070ti where with one of the cards I mentioned you can probably get away with high settings.

An 8700 non k will be fine for that. I'm running an 8700 @ 4.4ghz and a 1080, and I've never been CPU limited at 1440p at around 144fps.
