My current laptop is a 14" Intel-8th-Gen Elitebook that's a lot more enjoyable to carry around on a daily basis.   At some point you have to decide that if you want massive compute power, you probably should just buy a desktop or use a server farm and keep a thin-n-light for mobile use.

I'm not saying you need to lug around a 10lb laptop I am just saying it's not that bad and there is a healthy middle ground where you don't sacrifice everything in the name of being slim. I mean there is diminishing returns in terms of weight. Once it's light enough to where it isn't a pain to carry around I think there is no reason to make it lighter and often times companies do because it's a dumb competition now on who can have the slimest laptop design.

I wonder if fruit boys are gonna blame it on intels inability to deliver 10nm for quite some time... Perhaps they did indeed order a large stock of chassies, gobbled up intels promises on the back of that 10nm 2c i3 and got royally fucked by being stuck with releasing 2800 i7 as the top of the line and i3 for the 13".

One way or another, apples failured make me happy, perhaps they will someday abandon hardware and will license the ecosystem under strict conditions. OEMs would kill to get the contract

Yeah the Dolby is up there but its colors fade quick moving either side and blooming is still an issue. OLEDs have one downside and that is burn in. No backlight, no color deterioration, perfect blacks, instant pixel response. OLED is the only way to go.  

At least until RGB microLED displays become a thing. They have the potential to outdo even OLED. We might finally see a truly Rec.2020 capable screen with those.

Nah, I know the kind of people that buy a Macbook Pro because they think it is better, but are not going to use it for other things than Facebook. I will never understand why lawsuits go for useless cases but leave the real customer concerns untouched.

Honestly: This should not be allowed at all. They are basically selling a fake for more cash.

I mean, the sample size is one. Though I wouldn't be surprised if more had this issue.

Who knows what maybe changing the paste could do if this is big enough of an issue for Apple to do something about.

Apple isn't lying about the performance of their hardware or whatever, but they probably didn't really consider everything else to make sure it'd perform like that all the time.

I don't see how being strong makes lifting something heavy any less of an inconvenience than lifting something lighter. It might be less of an inconvenience than it used to be but it isn't any different compared to some lighter object.

having to redesign a product each year is a bad idea and they know it.

heck.. someone a while back drilled holes in the casing of his MBP and saw a 15C drop in temps just by giving the heatsink fans access to cooler air instead of it having to literally pull it all the way through the laptop. why can't they at least add that? Make a nice little vent where the fan is... doesn't have to be ugly...

 

idk... just bad design choices that are leading to more bad design choices. it's not really going well for them really. kinda worried because they are so big.

It is no surprise at all that an i9 can't be cooled by the MacBook Design.

That is not a matter of samplesize=1m but a matter of physic laws. It won't happen for any of the "affected" MacBooks and the percentage of the affected MacBooks will be about 100%, give or take zero.

 

Basically, once the machine needs to actually use the added performance, it looses said performance. That is as close to flat out lying in your face as it gets. You pay for something that can't happen, as the design does not allow it. And thinking that "they just did not consider everything" is a stretch at best. Honestly: They did not think someone would use their 5k+ machine for more than opening a txt-file?

No, I agree. It probably affects them all, but to what degree is a good question, and I think it sucks.
 

 

But you know, just don't get the i9. it'll make apple reconsider putting such a thirsty CPU in a laptop without properly cooling it.
