Dust cases (warning, image heavy)

Oldschool22

Remember that video Linus did about the year long dust experiment with 3 different fan configs? I see those dust cases and raise you granddads what appears to be an older budget rig.

Btw, is there any hope in saving this or is it a permanent fire hazard?

Well, this might be a crazy and radical plan, to radical for most on this forum even but; Have you considered blowing the dust out with a gas duster or compressed air?  Crazy I know but I've been reading some science on this and it might actually be possible.

Time to get out the compressed air

I recommend getting a duster and a shop vac or other small hose vacuum cleaner to clean out the big stuff, then use compressed air to get the rest. I recommend keeping the vacuum around to suck up the dust while you use the compressed air so you can breathe

Darn, my Uncle's computer was almost that bad too.

I had to take out my Kirby vacuum to clean his.  Good thing that vacuum can double as a blower.  Still, had to take the heatsink off and dump that into some water and soap and use a tooth brush to clean it.

Hmmm, looks like a 990FX board in there.

Update: Sacrificed a pen to clear the webs, blew away loose dust from the big fan, back fan, and top of power supply.

Yea it does a little, it won't be though with triple channel memory, probably x58

Motherboard is worth cleaning up and keeping should be a good OC platform and if it is x58 6c/12t zeons aren't very expensive. As for the psu it's probably 2002~ and pretty useless these days, markings make it look like its one of the first with the supplemental power connectors for cpu.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige

To notify the person you're responding to:

Quote them (the left facing arrow)

Or drop a tag: @ElfarrWi1, @Virus__

Agreed that X58 is an amazing (and cheap!) platform. The GPU isn't atrocious either. That was a pretty decent system

That's an F in the profile pic

I found it in my granddad's computer room. must've had it years along with all his other crap. I swear I saw a Commodore 64 box somewhere in there, along with anything basically analog computer stuff.

I've currently got my own computer that's only a few months old, a newborn compared to that fossil
