Is this even close to game?

Recently, my cousin tries to run Minecraft with this computer. {vv Specs vv} Can this run the game well? {Minimum Specs} That day I just killed this gaming experience with a entity lag troll and shutdown his computer when the CPU hit Tj.

Just try it . No harm in testing it out for yourself for a moment. Though I think it would probably horribly held back by the CPU

mmmm... yeah i feel like whomever bought this pc either didn't know of the tradeoffs between thread/core count and clock speed, or this is the office pc of the house and they just happen to be wanting to be trying to play minecraft on it. either way though, i can almost guarantee minecraft will run to at least some degree.

Probrably, I mean common Minecraft can run on a potato these days . Looking at you Celeron N3060 . But to be honest I think my Celeron N3060 is actually faster than that xeon

If you install optifine and run vanilla MC otherwise, he'll be fine. This is just a rebadged underclocked Core 2 Quad.

A quadcore from 2006 locked at 1.6ghz? gee must be a dream to use it... I don't know even if it runs it'll be quite poop... all settings turned to their minimum.

I mean if you can run minecraft on a a pentium 4 I'm sure a xeon will do fine

In multiplayer servers, this CPU is actually fine because in this case the CPU doesnt have to compute everything. In singleplayer mode, it will be pushed quite hard.

This part is bit confusing. Tj = Thermal Junction. "Lag troll"? And why would CPU hit Tj causing shutdown. its Tj Max which is important and that is at 110C. Way more than you would get under stock clocks and cooler.

it could possibly be that the thermal paste isn't really helping anymore and also possible that the cpu fan isn't spinning (or this entire thread is a troll)

Well, that computer just sucks..... The cooler just not even good, idle at 70C or so.....

(Measured using infrared thermometer outside of the heat sink)

ok, so get some fresh thermal paste from the onlines, remove heatsink, wash thoroughly (MAKE FOR ABSOLUTE CERTAIN IT IS DRY BEFORE REINSTALLING!!!) and then that should help.

thanks! It does help a....... bit because the xeon processor is still shit (old and %#@&$ yea everyone knows it)
