Am I the only one?

When I was a kid, I would tie my shoes once, and slip them on and off without untying for as long as the shoe was in use (I know it's a bad habit and i'm supposed to untie to take off, but i was a kid)

And I would never have a single problem with that. In the last few years I have had several pair of shoes that i have to constantly retie throughout the day, sometimes more than 10 times a day. I feel like the material used to make shoe laces has gotten softer and tends to have less friction with itself, allowing for knots to untie easier. Has anyone else noticed this?

After I changed my way of tieing they never go loose anymore.

I totally did this but it doesn't work on the high tops I wear these days so it's been years.

I always tie and untie my shoes when I take them on/off. When I was younger I would just slip them on, but it would always ruin the heel and eventually make it cause it to fold over and give me blisters. Ever since leaving High School and being on my own I stopped and my shoes last a lot longer haha.

I created slip ons since 9th grade. Thread the top shoelace the opposite way and make sure your laces are tight enough that your shoe stays on, but lose enough that you can slip it off. Knot off the lace and cut off the access lace. Serves 2 purposes.. You don't need to tie your shoes and it's stylish.

Kinda difficult to explain in text. I tie them regularly, but before tightening the final loop, I pull on of the loops through again.

I can't stand the feel of high tops. I know some people love them but i hate them

I did that if possible with the shoes, but since I have gotten bigger feet, the shoes can't do that anymore.

I will try that, but that looks like something I would rather retie the easy way than learn how to do the hard way. Very interesting

This is meant to retie yes, but they never loosen for me.

i tried i failed miserably, i'm not good with knots so i'll stick to normal and see if i can't figure out why these laces come undone so easily

In high school I'd avoid shoe laces all together by wearing Ed Hardy shoes. Smh...

I only tie my laces when they come undone, which is at most once a month.

Do you already do the standard shoe lace knot?  You just retake the same lace and make a second pass through the hole as before.

I do that all the time, except for when I play tennis because my shoes need to be on tight then.

Smart shoes that have thin, cylindrical laces, are the worst for this. Especially when the laces are waxy. Flat laces are generally fine though.

Your shoes might not fit very well.

 

This used to happen to me on more ill fitting shoes but that's because there's literally no shoes my size at all on stores here I now have to import 100% of my shoes and sneakers.
