Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Well , that does make more sense than what MTD guys do .

I mean , pit a 200k $ R8 V10 vs a 45k $ Camaro ( or was it the stang ? ) is kinda dumb . Of course , track performance probably isnt the only determining factor , but dumb anyways .

Agreed. It's fun to watch a $400k Ferrari put down a hot lap but I cant afford one no matter what time it puts down. I'd rather see how the cars I can afford stack up against each other. That's just me though.

Anyone have experience with cordless impacts?

I'm getting really tired of dealing with the air hose on my pneumatic impact that is getting old and doesnt have the same power it used to.

I'm looking at these two, but am open to other options:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-20-Volt-Max-XR-Lithium-Ion-1-2-in-Cordless-Impact-Wrench-Kit-with-Hog-Ring-Anvil-Tool-Only-DCF899HB/206159791

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M18-FUEL-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-1-2-in-Cordless-High-Torque-Impact-Wrench-with-Friction-Ring-Bare-Tool-2763-20/204410434

My cordless drill batteries will work with the Dewalt so I wouldnt have to buy a charger, although I would probably want to buy at least one of the larger batteries for the impact. However that battery would then be cross compatible with my cordless drill too.

I've always had good luck with Milwaukee stuff, and they have a great reputation but I would have to deal with a different set of batteries.

Thoughts?

I have a Porter Cable one that I use all the time. Good for small cars and stuff that isn't super tight. It's not the strongest but I still love it. can use it for other non-automotive things too every now and then. Love the lithium batteries. Quick to charge, and don't lose all their power slowly like the old NiCd/NiMh batteries did.

I use my impacts mostly to take apart suspension components on old cars, so very tight. Is yours 1/2" drive or 1/4?

I also love the Li-ion batteries, I cannot say enough good things about my Dewalt XRP 20V drill.

Mine is use whatever you want with it, I can get 1/2", 1/4", or even the smaller ones (1/8"? i dont remember) bits for it and use whatever I want.

Like I said it's not the strongest but I love it. Probably tops out around 100 ft-lbs. Usually it's Just enough for lug nuts.

Haha no, I'm talking about the drive; does it use a 1/2" square like a 1/2" drive ratchet, or a 1/4" hex like a multibit driver?

I'm just trying to get a better bearing on what you can use them on. These claim 700lb-ft but I always wonder how accurate that really is.

it's a mutli-bit driver in that case. looks like this:

yeah this won't do 700 ft-lbs that's for sure. You're probably looking at better stuff than the thing I have lol

Not necessarily better, just for a different application. :) That does look like a really nice driver though, Porter Cable makes good stuff.

That's the direction I'm kinda leaning right now too. It would be nice to have everything using common batteries.

You are very right that stronger increases the price, If you take just one step up from these, the price about doubles... :o I dont want to spend $500 on a cordless impact lol

A kid in a volvo 740 wanted to race at the lights today.

Walked him even with a very light launch.

Thats not the good part.

Right when i reached 80km/h i got a text.

And my text signal just goes

"Praise the SUN!"

Almost crashed i was laughing so hard

Edit:

This is my text signal if anyone wants it

what would make more torque, all things theoretically equal:

a 1.8L V6 or a 1.8L I-4?

What are you referring to as being "equal" though? Both engines will be different in most ways. Cams will be different, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, etc. everything is different and will affect the output.

Technically and theoretically, if they both flow the same amount of air at the same rpms, and assuming both have a square bore/stroke (bore and stroke are the same distance), they should both make about the same power/tq.

14 hours ago, terrytek said:

well technically yes, because it has a larger surface area to distribute force across the piston, and usually provides more torque and power across that increased surface area.

Nope. Longer stroke will make more torque because the is less surface area (more pressure on the piston surface) and the combustion is pushing on the piston for a longer period of time.

Diesel engines like used in tractors and big rigs, generally have a much longer stroke (partly for higher compression) and don't rev very high, but produce gobs of torque. ;)

Dewalt is kinda my standard go to company when it comes to power tools, but I'm not necessarily hung up on them. That said, having battery compatibility with other tools is a big plus in my book.

1. Yeah I always had it monetized. Maybe make a few cents a year off of it LOL but mostly it's a why not??

2. yeah I know... Lol

3. The view is terrible wasn't it?! I need to somehow mount camera higher without making it unstable. Maybe I need to find a new clamp spot.

4. I noticed that too. Was just holding the steering wheel for dear life most of the time lol. I'll try that! I did have that seatbelt locked though and that alone helped A TON! Kept my lower body in place for the most part. I didn't think about that though, had the seat back in my normal driving position lol

-- want to add, I had posted this in /r/autocross to see what people said, one pointed out that I look like I'm fighting the car the whole time. Need to be a bit smoother so I have to make less corrections. This is especially true for my first run lol. I think I try to hard on my first run. Which is fun because you don't know the track but can end badly. (Like my super fast entry speed into that slalom that forced me to brake while slaloming which made me almost spin and take out cones)

maybe I should monetize my vids...  how do you deal with income tax on them and stuff?

as far as fighting the car, thats pretty much the reason I don't like cars with lots of body roll, it reduces that "fighting the car" feeling by a lot!  and so does a seat that really holds you in place.  this is also the reason why I keep telling you to get bumpstops
