I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I drive something like that circled in red.

Not the Focus, even if I'd like to

I was curious what kinda oil temps an NA NC saw on track, so I got myself and oil temps sensor and went to the track.

I ran with SCCA Track Nights, a lot of newbies come out to these events, including plenty of people who think they're faster than they really are. The two sessions I ran I got maybe 3 clean laps? The point is a regular track day there will be a bit more hard driving cause there isn't as much traffic to run into. Also it's a mid September night... Ambient temp was 63F according to the iPhone weather app after my second session.

Session 1 max temp
270*F
Session 2 max temp
272*F

It was down to about 240 by the time I got to the pits after a cool down lap, but I suspect that had a lot to do with the low ambient temps. I forgot my OBD2 dongle in my other car so I don't have coolant temps.  But the last track day I did it maxed out at 203 for a short period of time, it was under 200 most of the time. That was with higher ambient temps (bight 70's low 80's I think) and that was driving more aggressively than today.

I for one am surprised that the oil temps got this high... Especially with the cooler weather and not driving it as hard as I usually do on track.  If I was keeping the 2.0 long term I'd definitely be getting an air to oil cooler.  While 270 is technically safe for modern synthetics I'd prefer to max out in the 240 range, 215ish being ideal. Now I'm curious how hot it gets at more typical track day pace and ambient temps.

Here's the sensor I got

And what do you mean by "track pack" and "performance pack"?

Sorry for all the n00b questions too, I spend a lot of time around nice cars and people who like them but I don't know a lot :P

Back in the day Ford did an option package called "Track Pack" which added some different things depending on the year. Mine for example went to an Aluminum hood and fenders as well as changing the standard GTs T-45 transmission for the slightly sturdier T-5 and changed from an open differential to a trac-lock diff.

In the new Mustangs they call this the "Performance Pack" and it's adding bigger brakes, special wheels, different springs and shocks to lower the car, as well as a Torsen differential, and locking out the option for the automatic.

aint perfect but but its getting there.

hey @vinyldash303 I got in my car after having the cover on and OMG it made a HUGE difference in temps. The inside wasn't uncomfortable whatsoever and it wasn't like walking into an instant sweatbox.

Man that cover is shaping up to be one of the best gifts I ever got in terms of usefulness lol

we both track (well He does... I AutoX mine because I'm poorer lol) our cars. Respect us or leave xD

Meh the fan base isn't that bad(there's always the belligerent ones but they are everywhere). I just like how the cars handle and drive and they are fast for what they are. Cheap too! Probably one of the better price/performance cars for track use in the used market.

you should get one of these if you leave your car parked out In the sun. It's awesome and only takes a minute to throw on and it closes into the trunk to keep people or the wind from stealing it.

Yep. The only differences between the B235E and the B235R are the turbo and the fact that the latter requires synthetic oil.

http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=2284

i have made quite a bit of research into SAAB 9-5 and a bit in the 9-3 cause i want one for myself .... super badly

the difference is also the ECU ... the 2.3T has an ECU meant for lower power than the Aero one

the low pressure turbo is a Garrett GT-1752 the high pressure one is a Mitsubishi TD04HL-15T-6
the GT-17 is know to leak oil quite early (around 150k km) and the TD-04 have had problems of breaking themselves .... thankfully starting at around 350k km

the engines can make a ton of power and survive

mostly great cars ... some what hard to work on ... but what car isint? oh right .... hondas ....

also parts can get quite expensive ... cause its a saab

make sure it has a "fixed/upgraded" PCV system or do the fix yourself ... when those things get clogged or go bad ... the engine will go *poof*

2006 and newer came with upgraded PCV systems

Mobo - Asus Maximus VI Formula Ram - Kingston HyperX Fury 1866mhz CL10 16GBCPU - Intel i7 4790K ;

Well the full car doesn't see much damage from the sun, it's just the soft top and interior that get annihilated. I don't have 24/7 access to a garage so I needed one of these badly.

Here was where mine was bought, their stuff is top quality. It has soft felt on places where it touches the paint so it doesn't scratch it, the stitching is perfect, the material is thick and heavy. It's awesome!

expensive but well worth it considering soft tops are a $1000+ job unless you DIY (which is fiddly and very difficult)

the he company makes stuff for tons of cars so check to see if they have an NC one.

Looks fun. Last time I was out at the track my dad nearly flipped his 911 turbo, it was really scary. Took a turn too fast and went on 2 wheels, he took a break for a while after that. He recently sold it though and bought a panamera GTS so no more track days :(

speaking of 911 turbos, one of those kept getting in my way yesterday... haha

and speaking of almost flipping, an s2k spun in front of me yesterday at the fastest part of the track, same part a coworker of mine flipped his chump car...
