Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

'ello, m8s, so I'm starting to save up for a first car, and since I want to be a total baller on a budget, I'm looking at late 90's bmw 5 series'. Can someone comment on how stupid of a plan this is for a high school student? Or are they actually really reliable because of legendary German engineering. I mean I've found some of them for under $2000, and they look amazing. Questions, comments, concerns, interventions?

It's a bit of a hit and miss. I would personally go against it, no matter how nice they can be, even 20 year-old cars.

An issue is when/if stuff break, then it can be fairly expensive. But the biggest part for a student on a budget is the insurance, which is quite high, even when it is such an old car.

And fuel consumption won't be anything amazing either.

Edit: Not telling you not to do it. But if you can handle working on your own car, then it will be a pretty nice car. And you might want to leave enough budget for something like this.

why is it tirerack sells 2 versions of the same exact tire, but at different prices? like take these two.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Sport+PS2&partnum=24YR8SPORTPS2XLN3&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Sport+PS2&partnum=24YR8SPORTPS2XLV3&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

same exact tire, specs, everything, except the price. one is almost 60 bucks less than the other. i don't see why they would list one at full price and one at a lower price.

One's MO, where as the other is N3. Not where what the difference is between them.

(It says one's for Merc, other for Porsche?)

Edit: The N3 tire clocks in a pound lighter, as well. So I don't know.

hmm, so i guess it's just mostly what it's approved for i guess? because i'm pretty sure these will fit on any rim that accepts 225/40r18 tires, but its like they have certifications or something?

wow, 13 grand for a 2003 m5 actually seems like a good deal. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/5727998931.html tad bit high on the miles, and not my favorite color, titanium silver, but hey, its selling for below market value, and it comes with nice upgrades like eisenmann exhaust, afe CAI, and 19 inch TSW rims.

I think so. I looked the tires up on a Swedish site, and the only real difference I could see there is that one was rated at 69db, the other 70db.

They also say "Only Mercedes (But fit other cars as well). So... I have no idea. Basically the same tire in my book.

yeah, i mean i'll just end up buying the cheaper one, because why pay more for the same tire?

watching his build videos is a big reason why I ended up in a Miata and not an FRS/BRZ

Yep thats why I lost interest in the toyobaru too. Was watching the vids he did with the new 200t motor from Lexus. Really cool stuff they are doing. Just Toyota needs to fire all their exterior design teams.

It's raining hard again and flash flood warning was extended till 1:00. So I went park my car at the doughnut shop convienently placed right in front of our neighborhood. (Which didn't flood this morning I had looked over the fence)

now that did mean I had to walk back home with no shoes on and a raincoat because I don't have boots and water is still up to my ankles in the road.(it's been raining off on all day) but at least I know there's a much better chance my car won't get flooded lol

Stop xD or my luck they will tow it away even though I know the parking lot doesn't get used much

i should of left a note on the dashboard... Oh well. Maybe I can call them in the morning if it's flooded and tell them that was why lol

or perhaps it'll flood so much they don't work at all tom and I don't have to worry about anything.

My my car does have an alarm and it's a manual and I locked all the compartments even though I have nothing of value in them. So hopefully nothing happens. The car is still only a few hundred feet away from my house since we are in front and We'll hear the alarm.

i mean i kinda like the designs. i mean, obviously they wouldn't have cars we see today 50 years from now, but its kinda nice to see how they would look if cars made today were driven around 200 years from now.

damn, kinda sucks how expensive cars have gotten these days. i mean even a toyota tacoma, which are normally utilitarian trucks, if i wanted to build one the way i wanted it in 4x4 limited double cab trim, would cost almost 45 grand.  http://www.toyota.com/configurator/#!/build/step/summary/year/2017/series/tacoma/model/7582/exteriorcolor/03R3/interiorcolor/LA42/packages/option67/accessories/R2-DIO25-D4-8Q-M1-7R-DIO20-MF-DIO26-DIO40-37-TG

at that point i would have bought like a used e60 or even a cheap mercedes s63 or if i try hard enough, s65.
