I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

the accord takes 4.5 quarts with the filter. it really sucks to have that last 1/2 quart in the container...

Hey I set the extra aside and each time I fill up that bottle with the extra with the extra from the next oil changes and then one day I have a "free" oil change from all the extra leftovers.

The one i most commonly end up bashing into is tow hitches on parked trailers.

Just walking along and then *WHAM!* Depending on how much they jacked the front up its either a bruised shin or savaged knee.

If they sell the right grade in the right bottle then it's probably fine/better than conventional. (Some off brands have been known to bottle the wrong grade lol, do a google search for "worst motor oil" xD)

Just will have a lot less additives. And maybe not hold its properties quite as long

I personally rather use a name brand. Just makes me feel more comfortable. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

what's a good cheap synthetic option?

quaker state, valvoline, castrol, pennzoil, and mobil 1 are your go to brands. if you don't mind spending a bit more, royal purple is a very good oil too.

eve. With taxes, since my Miata takes under 4 quarts, each oil change I do only costs me around ~$25

i always go to walmart for oil. i can buy a 5 quart jug of pennzoil natural gas based synthetic oil for like 20 bucks a jug. and castrol edge titanium oil is only 23 bucks a jug. the benefits of shopping at walmart for oil. :D

oh ps, my friend's 04 blazer died today in the school parking lot and so we had to jump it, but nobody around us had jumper cables, but luckily, my mom came at just the right time to provide me with some (we always keep jumper cables in all of our cars in our house) and jump it. but the car still wouldn't start it, and i think have suspicions that i might have fried something in her car since another friend of mine hooked up the cables, but didn't do it in the right order, and it might have a surge in power and might have fried something, since it cranked, but it wouldn't start. i think something might have gone besides the battery.

This is one thing that threw me off when i was researching things about my camaro.

When i read up on the diff i saw that the diff was supposed to contain "X quarts of diff oil"

And my reaction as i've grown up with the metric system was

"Quart.... The fuck is a quart!?"

Wikipedia told me that it is equal to 0.946352946 litres...

As long as it's the right grade and certs then it will be fine. The cheap oil doesn't come out of its own refinery. Valvoline and Castrol and Penzoil and pretty much any other brand will come from wherever the oil wells are pulling oil from. Only differences are what additive package (and even then) and which NASCAR driver you prefer.

Even still ill I do want to switch to Royal Purple but that shits expensive.

I will use their tranny fluid and rear diff oil though next time I service them. Will have to order the tranny fluid. No one around here carries Dex 6 by Royal purple. Should be able to fine 80w-90 by them.

i used to use royal purple every oil change on the protege, only so we can extend service life on oil, but damn, i couldn't afford 40 bucks a jug for it. and for me, once i own a bmw m5, it's gonna get wildly expensive soon, because it's gonna need so much more oil, plus it's 10w60 oil, and that stuff's not sold in stores.

I would be using the stuff but my rear and front main seals leak too much for me to want to use full synthetic. After the motor rebuild whenever that happens I'll use it after the first change.

But because the tranny and rear end don't leak at all, I'll start using it nest service :D

surprisingly, on the protege especially, it doesn't leak at all (actually the van does leak, but thicker oil seemed to seal it), so full synthetic oil actually works fine with the car.

and you plan on rebuilding the motor? how many miles does your truck have? i'm surprised you are considering a rebuild, and it sounds like you had this planned. i never knew this.

Naw. Just want to start saving for when the motor goes hopefully in a really long time (like in 200,000 from now). I want a super mild cam, roller rockers, 0.03 overbore, and at that time I'd like to do a gm 8.5" rear end swap and rear disk conversion. (also gonna need to have the driveshaft shortened.)

Truck is just getting to 150k miles so unless something goes horribly wrong its gonna take a long while. Just want to refresh the motor and add some power. The thing I'm most excited about is the cam and roller rockers. Efficiency FTW

i see you've got goals to work for. right now i'm just trying to get insurance to drive around. it sucks it's crazy expensive. and the the thing is, i know a friend who drives an evo x to school, but it only costs him like 50 bucks a month to insure.

Well shite. Maybe I won't be using Royal Purple gear oil. Not only does it come with a friction modifier already in it, but 80w-90 is only available in a 5 gallon bucket.

I don't see a problem here, just get a 5 gallon overflow tank that feeds in to your differential. That way when it starts leaking in 200k you don't have to worry about it for another 200k.
