800 Gaming PC Build

Budget (including currency): 800

Country: Netherlands/Switzerland

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly games.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I am looking for a build fully optimized for gaming (I will add visuals later). It's my first time building a computer, and I don't know much about it. Therefore, if my budget is unfeasible, please let me know.

I hope to game on modest/low settings at 1440p with 100+ FPS (for games like Call of Duty, Overwatch, Valorant, and Elden Ring—though I understand Elden Ring might not reach this FPS target). I also want the option to upgrade in the future. I'm coming from a PS4, so I'm not very demanding.

I know I'm missing some prices in my list, but they would probably be around $60 each, adding up to roughly $240. This is a very rough estimate. I don't mind going for the RX 7600 XT if it makes more sense, or considering other options (I'm not very familiar with the details). I'm also open to buying used parts if that makes sense.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Maybe I am delusional but:

so the part list is private, also it's apparently based off of Finland prices since it has the fi. prefix

that's a decent build, I can try to see what else could be built with this price, but AM4 might be only choice or Intel equivalent:

a build similar like this could work,

few points with AM4 build like this,

  • B450 MB can work, but wouldn't probably drive anything faster than 5600, 5600 is pertty good though
  • You also might need a BIOS update to support 5600 regardless of chipset, but it's likely if you're buying new motherboard that the MB comes with Bios version that supports it
  • 7700 XT is amazing for 1440p in a budget build especially.
  • either 3600Mhz CL18 or 3200Mhz CL16 RAM will be nice spot, if it's 3200Mhz CL18 there's not much harm either if faster can't fit the budget
  • we're digging for dirt cheap SSDs and Cases, but that's mostly okay, M.2 SSDs are pretty fast even if you buy the cheapest ones, in terms of reading the files there's nothing that will slow them down that much, and case just needs to hold and fit the parts, otherwise it can be as cheap as dirt, maybe have at least one or two pre-installed fans

Intel equivalent build with 12100F would cost roughly the same, though I'm not confident about which Motherboard is good for it, but since the CPU isn't high end it might not be as difficult, but you would be in same situation where upgrading CPU would mean MB need to be upgraded too.

In terms of power supply, right now the lowest you could go with 7700 XT is 550W, with low power CPU, and MSI MAG is the cheapest good quality PSU that ticks all the boxes.

You can lower the price down with 7600 XT, it's not terrible GPU, it is the slowest 7000 series card but it does have 16GB of VRAM so VRAM limitations are not an issue, even though it's power could potentially not enough for something that could use that much VRAM.

If you're asking what's the cheapest Motherboard for 5600, it's this:

CPU: *AMD Ryzen 5 5600 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor  (€116.99 @ Amazon Netherlands)
Motherboard: Asus PRIME B450M-K II Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  (€52.99 @ Amazon Netherlands)
Memory: *G.Skill Aegis 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory  (€37.50 @ Amazon Netherlands)

It's the cheapest AM4 motherboard, and it works because I use the same motherboard so for gaming it should work.

Another limitation of B450 Chipset is 3.0 Pcie, but that's okay, 3.0 is already plenty fast, if we're talking SSD.

Do note that higher quality B450 and lower B550 motherboards can push the CPU much further before limiting the performance for their safety.

Oh, I almost forgot about this one, thankfully the website is pretty good with it's recommended builds,

they use RX 6800 GPU, which is a 16GB AMD GPU for reasonable price that costs slightly less than 7700 XT, allowing more budget to other parts:

The only downside of RX 6800 is it needs slightly more spacious case for it to fit: (but you can fit B550 MB in the budget)

Lastly, if you have the budget, the minimum budget required for entry AM5 build, is 1000-1050€:

recommended builds,

the build guides, here https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/guide/

but I alter these, because sometimes they use more expensive cases or 2TB instead of 1TB, which can raise price by 50€ minimum. (some guides lack parts with prices)
