Nvidia presents 65" 4K 120Hz, HDR, G-Sync gaming monitor

snortingfrogs

So want this, perfect for the gaming/htpc-computers in the living room.

CES 2018 is about to begin. It’s the year’s biggest tech showcase, where the world’s best and brightest come to show their new products and concepts, which they hope you’ll add to your home. And as always, TVs will be the most popular gadget on show, with hundreds of big-screen TVs vying for space in your gaming den or living room. But if you play on a PC, don’t be tempted by the buzzwords and shiny tech - none of the big-screen displays will deliver the excellent experience you deserve as they’ll lack high refresh rates, low latency , PC-tuned HDR, and G-SYNC variable refresh rate technology.

Now, there is one display with all those features, and more: the Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD). It’s the world’s first big-screen PC gaming display, specifically designed for enthusiast gamers seeking the ultimate 4K PC gaming experience.

The first BFGDs, coming later this year from ACER, ASUS and HP, are 65 inches, run at 4K at 120Hz, have G-SYNC technology, HDR with 1000 nit peak brightness, and an integrated NVIDIA SHIELD, giving you instant access to Netflix, Amazon Video and YouTube at 4K, NVIDIA GameStream, Android games and apps, and much more.

https://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/bfgd-big-format-gaming-display

Finally we get to see some large 4K monitors with high refresh rates as well.

I still do like the thing. Don't see a reason no to.

And I also like how PUBG is the new standard:

Quote

In practice, all this tech ensures your gun fires instantly in PUBG when facing down a foe, that movement is clear and free of blur, that there’s no tearing or stuttering when playing, and that the action shown is at the highest levels of detail possible when you play with a suitably-powerful graphics card

I can't stop referencing it as Big Fucking Gun Display though.

I still laugh when people need 1070s for it be playable.

Back OT: 65 inch gaming monitors or TVs are too freaking huge and it seems like a pointless idea.

I don't find to be pointless if you're really far away from it. I know a couple of people that use 140 cm TVs for their main PCs in living room. There is a buyer for everything nowadays. It's a niche of the niche I'd say.

I wouldn't be comfortable with this as a daily PC monitor but I personally use my 60" TV at around 1meter distance for racing games and it's pretty damn nice.

8-10k $ range imho, especially  if you consider it has even full dci-p3  coverage

Sure, just need to wait another 10 years until it's something that a normal person can sort of buy, then it will be cool

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

If it comes out like that, ouch! To be fair, I have no idea what other displays vaguely in that class are going for, but I wasn't thinking of spending that much... low thousands maybe. Thinking more, I wasn't paying attention to the size. I don't need that size, so if something similar in specs in a more compact package were to be available maybe that'll help too.

Seriosly, how have these manufactuers not learned yet.

People can already buy TV's at that size that are good for gaming, only without G/F Sync.

The reason most dont buy them is they are to damn big.

The sweet spot for large VDU gaming is right where there is nothing good atm. 37"-42". Your only choice in this size range are crappy LCD tech VDU's.

Now if they brought out a OLED 40" 120hz Gysnc 4k/8k HDR 16:9 or 21:9 screen for sub £1500, i would bet vital parts of my anatomy that it would sell like hot cakes.

CPU: Intel i7 3930k w/OC & EK Supremacy EVO Block | Motherboard: Asus P9x79 Pro  | RAM: G.Skill 4x4 1866 CL9 | PSU: Seasonic Platinum 1000w Corsair RM 750w Gold (2021)|

This is most lkely going to be way too expensive but I like the idea of larger monitors finally coming to the market. Up until now the only choice for very large pc displays have been TVs or projectors which have all sorts of problems when it comes to using them for productivity. Hopefully we'll get something a little less insane at a lower price soon.

40"+ monitors are most definitely already a thing. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Monitor-43-Multi-Client-P4317Q/dp/B01F80FSKS/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1515419572&sr=1-2&refinements=p_n_size_browse-bin%3A3547809011

They may not have as many features as this one but I wouldn't call them "bad" by any definition of the word. The real "innovation" with this one is the massive size.

I am using dual 32'' screens as my setup. And honestly when i got these i was on the fence if i can get used to the size.

It took some weeks before i could really enjoy them.

Would definitely not want to have any bigger screens.

Also not sure if "just" 4k is enough to be crisp and clear for the size and the fact it will be right in your face.

My screens are running 1440p and when i went from 28'' 1440p to these 32'' i noticed a HARSH drop in sharpness. Side by side you can clearly notice the difference in pixel size.

Sure 4k is way more Pixels, but so is 65''.

With respect, the ones that are availabe are POS.

Ether the only redeemable feature is the size, or they are for professional use, usualy resulting in abysmal pixel response resulting in ghosting, and input lag.

I approve of this product. If its good enough I could easily see this replace a TV. Personally I only use my TV for streaming from my AppleTV and gaming. I prefer G-Sync and low latency instead of silly "smart-TV" features that I dont even use. I can't even get channels on my TV so if I was upgrading my TV I would probably jump on this instead if the picture quality is good enough.

Honestly I'd rather have an ips display with meh response times than a tn with 1ms response (especially large ones where color shift is visible even from directly in front of them) - to each their own I suppose, but even for professional use extra large monitors are fairly rare, so it's still good for professionals if these become mainstream or at least somewhat common.
