Intel i3 8100 vs AMD ryzen 5 1400

Stuck with a two option here intel i3 8100 and Amd ryzen 5 1400. They both have 4 cores but ryzen have 8 threads.

I am tight on my budget so i3 8100 is in my budget but I can manage to get Amd as well. Is it worth to invest more in ryzen 5?

For games only get the 8100 it outperform Ryzen 5.

If you need the extra threads to do some multithreaded workloads then get the Ryzen.

I disagree. The i3-8100 is a locked chip and only 4C/4T. More games start requiring eat least 6 threads these days to run at their full potential, and the Ryzen can be overclocked beyond the i3-8100s performance level in any application, even on the stock cooler.

Just google the benchmark if you still doubt it or ask @dizmo

8100 has better single threaded performance which games still get more benefit from it

At stock speeds, the 8100 is slightly faster, yes. Again, the R5 1400 can overclock, which makes it faster again.

1500x is a good example of OCed ryzen 1400.

I3 8100 still win.

And dont bring overclock to the topic because there are silicon lottery.

It bring more question rather than answer.

Take another good look at which forum you're on. Overclocking and Ryzen go hand in hand. And silicon lottery? Lol.... all Ryzen chips can do 3.6-3.7 on the stock cooler, which makes them on par single threaded with the 8100. It's free performance, why would you even imply in the slightest that it's not relevant :P

In gaming, they trade blows, but in anything non-gaming, the i3 gets thrashed. The value proposition is clearly in the R5's favor.

*sigh thats why i told you before i3 8100 is better for gaming and if the OP is going to game only its better for him to get the 8100 than R5 1400.

If he needs the extra threads for multi threaded workloads then he should get the Ryzen 5 1400.

Name some games that actually require 6 cores. There aren't any. They can spread the workout out among the cores, absolutely, but it's far from a requirement, and honestly they still run perfectly fine on 4c machines. They wouldn't alienate that much of the market. In addition, since he's using a 1080p monitor, the performance requirements are even smaller.

It's still slower, even when overclocked. It's also a more expensive chip.

Uhh....the forum has nothing to do with if people want to OC or not. I'm on here. Have been for many years. I don't OC.

It's on par with clock speed, however clock speed does not equate to better performance when compared chip to chip.

Haha, you include videos that prove the point that the 8100 is most often faster. You're also comparing a more expensive chip to a cheaper one, which is also a little odd. Now, granted in editing etc it might be faster, but it's far from crushing.

Branch Prediction/speculative excecution on Intel CPUs can be used to either inject code or read code from the Kernel space without proper authorisation.

The bugs are called 'Meltdown', wich is fixed or will be fixed in the coming days wich ruins the performance of Systemcalls.

The other one, Spectre is not fixed or partially fixed. And one of the things happening is discussed in that twitter thread.
