We should stop thinking of the worst possible case..I mean, again, it's only a repeal of the 2015 laws. Is it possible that an ISP blocks certain websites? I meannnnn sure? if it's not followed by legal issues. The odds of an ISP doing that, even if it's the only one in your area, are not good odds. People are talking like the ISP's want to ruin the internet and I assure you, as much as they want money, that's not the case, if anything, they want to innovate ahead of their competition.

Lets not forget, AT&T tried to do unlimited data throttling and is now in court for it. A repeal of the 2015 laws isn't a repeal of business practices as a whole, certain laws still need to be followed and if a business is doing shady things, they can very easily be punished. The internet won't die, we won't lose our freedom, that's fear tactic level of promotion. People are scared because of possibilities but I don't think they realize the odds of blocking sites, throttling sites, aren't that good.

Before the NN laws, there were isolated incidents of site throttling that were worked out. Keep in mind, those were isolated, it did happen, not a lot at all. What I think we will mostly see, is upgraded speeds TOWARDS ISP's apps. Comcast offering increased speeds for Hulu, so on. Since companies will need to be transparent, they would have to tell you if they throttle by law. That doesn't stop them exactly but it would hurt them if they throttle netflix for example and again would probably lead to legal issues like AT&T  is in at the moment.

This internet doomsday idea started with the media on tv and has spread and I don't like it because it's spreading fear that I don't see as reasonable. It's like the media and ebola all over again.

Many places only have access to 1 Option of Internet providers A huge amount of the USA is a monopoly on this so they could still do it without every single one jumping on but you know they will why not?

Net neutrality is like treating a drug addiction for the symptoms, not the actual addiction. Net neutrality doesn't change the fact that ISP's are a monopoly in most places. If there was more competition there wouldn't be this problem. The ISP's keeping each other in check instead of the government is an actual solution.

Doesn't have to be heavy, just needs to make sense. Net Neutrality isn't heavy at all, just what I would hope would be basic rational sense.

But of course, Greed corrupts the rational mind... so there's that.

i personally dont live in the U.S.A but i surely would like to help them fight against the FCC about Net Neutrality.

So in my Telecommunications class, we're having a debate about Net Neutrality and why we should or should not revoke Title II. So I've been tasked with defending the FCC's position but I need some help because it's not the easiest thing to defend especially when I'm so against it. Does anyone have any ideas other than looking up the most current FCC statement?

Have there been any real-life examples of ISPs making slow lanes or discriminating against any particular service, or is it all speculative and paranoia? What about cases where discriminating against specific traffic is necessary for the ISP to keep their service up, like blocking traffic from the source of Denial of Service attacks?

It's speculative and paranoia. There is no proof that the internet will be throttled more when net neutrality is repealed.

net neutrality means nothing, since people won't pay for service they don't like.

But first, let's talk about parallel universes.

It's devolved into insults and we're not even finished with the first page, I think that's a new record.  Obviously this isn't going anywhere good...

But for OP looking for both sides, or anyone else who wants to discuss it, there is already a news topic about this, we don't need to start up another.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Verizon offers video streaming in 1080p it is likely the other carriers will eventually do this as well. It's just a matter of time.

Why eventually? That makes no sense, I can sign up to any cellular provider here and get around 4G 70Mbps in towns/cities and stream anything I like from anyone. It's just data and cellular providers are not allowed to treat it differently to anything else, we have rules to prevent that kind of thing so charging for video streaming or higher quality settings just isn't allowed.
