TweakTown benchmarked RoTR, Far Cry Primal and Metro Last Light at native 8K with a Titan Xp!

YongKang

8K gaming might something foreign to most of the mainstream consumers and it's nothing new. Linus did a vid about it a while but there weren't any metrics... Oh bummer. :(

But! TweakTown has just released the
1st part their native 8K benchmarking article. They tested RoTR, Far Cry Primal and Metro Last Light. They'll test them in SLI in their next article. Stay tuned for that. :D

Here's a glimpse of the results here (Shadow of Mordor):

8k-benchmarking-7680-4320-amazing-part_75

They tested this resolution with a Nvidia Titan Xp, the most powerful card you can buy as of right now  + Terry Crews got 2 of them in his rig.  So, POOOOOWAAAAAAH!;)
The results are actually not too bad, considering they're on ultra. 60FPS might be achievable at medium and some more tweaking.
What do you guys and gals think? Will 8K gaming become mainstream in the next decade or so? Or, maybe we'll have to wait until 4K gaming becomes mainstream first? I would love to know your opinion.

Maybe in the next 2 generation if Nvidia keeps going upping 2x performance with each generation.

Probably. But Navi will have to be great for that to happen otherwise Nvidia will turn into what Intel has been.

Why? A lot of consoles games still opt for 30FPS like the upcoming Destiny 2. ;) It's definitely ok for single player campaign.

I whole heartily agree with that. Tbh, I don't have much faith when they said Navi will be AI focused. Let's see. It might be a monster in raw compute performance. :o

Didn't Jay said he gave Terry Crews 2 of Titan X's but not the Xp, so he got mad when Nvidia released another Titan Pascal since the Terry Crew PC he built is no longer the "best".

I don't read the reply to my posts anymore so don't bother.

Nah mate. Nvidia gave Jay the beasts like a day before he delivered the PC to Terry. He mentioned it in the delivery vid.

It's ok to deal with very consistent 30 fps but the thing is you won't be getting that. Also once you have experienced 60 fps gaming it is kinda hard to go back.

I think it would have been more interesting if they lowered the setting until they met 30 or 60Hz in their benchmarks. VRAM numbers would have been nice as well.

8k60FPS is more like 4 generations away. Main thing is that at 8k, you're going to want improved textures, which means significantly bigger memory size & bandwidth. It's actually the memory bandwidth that could be the issue to really get the level you'd need.

Though we're reaching the point of most of this stuff being a joke. 4K 144Hz gaming is probably as far as it has any reason to ever get to. We're reaching the limits of what the Human Eyes really gets anything out of.

Anyways.

Is gaming in 4K THAT awesome that people are willing to spend so much money on all this hardware and monitors just to be able to experience it? I didn't have any opportunity to try game in 4K, not to mention about 8K. Can someone tell me is it this good? I know that when you play in 4K on 40+ inch screen then you will see the difference compared to 1080p, but most of the people game on monitors that are not bigger than 30". At least that's what I see here on this forum and among my friends. Personally I'm not interested in 4K for now. 8K is a fairy tale for me. I would rather buy a 1080/1440p @144Hz monitor for that juicy refresh rate :D

Retro Gaming PC - ASUS T3

Server - HP ProLiant DL380 G6(Currently assembling it) - 2 x Intel Xeon E5520 2.26GHz 8MB Quad Core Processor

Are you telling me a 1080ti is twice as fast as a 980ti?

Honestly, sometimes I just can't fathom why some people say what they do on these forums.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

To be fair, a 1080ti isn't far off 4k@60 at all. Going by anandtech it exceeds 60@4k in a couple of games and hits ~50 in the worst one they tested with.

The difference is noticed under 28inches from the screen on a 28 inch monitor, which is pretty common size for 4k displays, considering your 2 foot from the screen yeah it makes a noticable improvement, I had a chart... But I'm on mobile right now so I can't post it
