GTX 1080 Gaming Laptop Thin as Macbook Pro – ASUS Zephyrus

From the review, due to the poor battery life (being tethered to the wall because your laptop lasts 1.5 Hours is unacceptable), awkward keyboard position, and a price higher than 99% of all MacBooks.... I would have to pass.

People who buy 1080 laptops baffle me unless its their only machine.

something i note from the vid that seemed overlooked in the final wrapup was the number of times Linus said "included in the box", is this the norm?

I mean cool but having a super thin "Laptop" like that would only be usable on a desk due to the keyboard and trackpad arangement. Have fun using that on your lap. That combined with the god awful battery life really doesn't make this much better than the super huge "laptops" other than being lighter than them. I'd still pick a Macbook Pro or Razer Blade over this.

Yeah sure these machines dont have a 1080, but they at least can function away from a wall outlet.

The thumbnail makes it look much thicker than it is imo

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

All the thin and light "Laptops" with 1080s have had pathetic battery life, run hot as fuck, and most are loud. They just aren't laptops. They are just lighter versions of those bricks that are called laptops. If you need a thin and light for productivity on the go there are better options like the Blade if you need gaming or the Pro if you want a Mac and better battery life.

As long as it's lighter than my dad's old printer word processor with floppy drive and CRT and fold-down leopard, it's portable enough for me.

This wouldn't be too bad after a liquid metal repaste and a larger ssd (non nvme because price). The Max-q and 7700hq may be able to stretch their legs a little after that.

Linus Media, can you post the details of your sound test? I have been testing mine over the past 4 days and the dBa reading is really high under load. I am trying to confirm if mine is defective. The fans sound like leaf blowers under any amount of graphic intensity (low to ultra) across 3 different games. The first pic is Nvidia's stated sound level, the 2nd is my reading under load, and the 3rd is when it is not under load. A point to remember is sound doubles every 7 to 10 dBa depending on ambient levels (log based). The ambient level of the room is an avg 44 dBa here. I have to wear noise cancelling headphones to drown it out.

im not sure why complain about the touchpad arrangements, i find it built for right handed people. They gotta have an option for left handed people too. It doesnt matter if you use it on a desk or on your lap or on your bed, its actually much better than a central touchpad and a keyboard further away.

The only problem i see is that the TDP for the gtx 1080 is lower than what alienware has for their 1070, and even alienware is using max-q for the gtx 1080 in their alienware 15 with a lower TDP than their 1070 counterparts.

With ASUS battery life is always 2 hours for their gaming laptop. The only fault is not having switchable/nvidia optimus for being a thin and light machine as its not very portable.

We didn't conduct a full sound test (it's been difficult to do so with construction), although it definitely never got that loud for us.  It looks like it is on a desk and the airflow isn't obstructed in your setup so I'm not sure what would cause it to be that loud.  In our tests even when the fans did kick in the sound quality was very good and never was high pitched.  Out of curiosity what temperature is your room?  Given it was getting pretty hot in our testing in a 21C room it might really pick up when put under load in a room over 25C.

Seems to be on purpose to me. With all the thumbnail trickery, and photoshopping going on.

So if its not aligned, and the point was to compare thicknesses.

Seems like a rookie mistake, but I doubt that be the case.

To me the title is fact, its actually 3x the performance. But I know Linus likes Trickery.

The temp of the room stays between 20 and 21C. Did you record the ambient dBa level and see a spike when the laptop bcame under load? I think mine is a defect, I just haven't had the chance to cross test a different one since there is a wait on additional units. Nvidia support had me reinstall the video drivers from fresh and ASUS support hasn't gotten back to me if this is normal. With as loud as the fans are, I have to set the speaker volume to 50 to even hear the game sound. I don't think that design was intended, even with weak speakers.

There should be one important question asked in that video - do you really have to buy a GTX 1080 to play at 1080p? -> how much overpay 120Hz IPS 1080 Max-Q imposes over like a 1060/1050Ti 1080p 60Hz IPS laptops versus benefits gained.
