price wise the benefits arent worth it, but theres no such thing as overkill. Try superposition with extreme shaders at 1080p and you'll see what i mean as even the titan xp struggles to run that at 60 fps 1080p.

If your pushing games at 120Hz a GTX 1080 is ideal IMO, although a 1070 will have you covered too but you might have to turn the details down in some games.  For a 60Hz display a 1060 is more than enough, but once you use a high refresh rate display you'll never want to go back.
