How about someone who, like I did, stumbles across the channel and watches all the videos stretching back years ago when they invested in 1080p and it was an insane thing. Same will apply for any new viewer in say 2020 when 4k is fully mainstream and 8k is enthusiast grade (similar to how 4k is now) Those new viewers never saw it a first time to begin with dude. I'm fairly sure I've had higher bitrate than that when I screwed up my recording settings. Well I got it to "play" in Kodi and then Kodi crashed as it hit the end of the file. Kodi just straight up crashes trying to load that 8k file. VLC plays the audio but no video. Downloaded MPC and it's at least not crashing but holy crap my system chugs trying to play those. the 6k one is choppy but plays to the end without any artifacting like I was having with Kodi. The 8k one has choppy but fairly consistent video playback but the audio cuts out for a second or two and then comes back. Looking at CPU and GPU usage charts, it looks like I'm getting throttled by my CPU rather than GPU in playback. Currently running a 4670k at 4.4GHz and an MSI GTX 770 at 1137GHz factory OC. Posted July 3, 2017 60FPS videos look way better, I dream of the 60 FPS LTT videos whenever they pan a blurry shot but the whole double storage thing is a good enough practical reason for me for why they aren't doing it. Kodi for Windows is only 32bit currently meaning it uses a 32bit build of FFMPEG. A 64bit build for windows is now in development in nightlies but it's not the stable release yet. A 64bit build of FFMPEG is able to decode using vastly more efficient intrinsics. I'm not saying that's magically why it works, but that's why VLC and MPC-HC, which use 64bit FFMPEG struggle, while Kodi just has a heart attack. Posted July 3, 2017 People watch in higher resolution than their monitor because YouTube compresses the living daylights out of everything, so a higher resolution usually gives you more information. Honestly, 60 FPS isn't needed for what they're doing, so I can see why they're not doing it. However, the whole "double storage" thing I don't quite understand because they're filming at 8K, which is a massive amount of pixels... Posted July 4, 2017 literally because it doesnt matter. with their type of content, 60fps does not make a difference. -theyve uploaded 60fps before and nobody noticed. -theyve uploaded footage shot in 30fps and uploaded in 60 fps(effectively not having any difference whatsoever) and told everybody it was 60fps. everybody flipped their shit and said it was amazing even though there was literally no difference, and @LinusTech called everybody out on it cuz it was all bullshit. its not worth the harddrive space, and has no benefit whatsoever for their content. and theyve actually said that dozens of times.
