LTT in 60 FPS

Basically, I just want to know why you aren't recording in 60 FPS.

Because they are double the size, there storage wont last long.

They already record in 8k right? I don't know if their cameras can even do 60fps 8k.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe I've heard them say a long time ago on a WAN show that they personally don't think 60 FPS looks that good in YouTube videos and they're therefore not interested in it.

I think they actually can. If they use the RED Weapon 8K, it can do full 8K at 60fps, and some cropped 8K at 75fps. But I think that'd be pretty tricky to stream...

When 4k/8k are mainstream ltt videos will still look good.   1080p will be equivalent to 360p in a couple of years so they are buying video longevity far past what 60fps would get them.

2 main reasons. 

1. They record most of their videos in 8k RAW at 24fps. This way they can crop footage to 4k and still have a full 4k youtube image. 8k 60fps isn't possible without loosing actual per frame quality (Colors lighting etc.)

2. They did release a bunch of videos in 60 fps without telling people, and less then 2% of their audience noticed. And honestly, for most of the content that they create, 60 fps doesn't make sense since its usually B-roll or a person standing in front of a camera talking.

Those RED cameras are legendary... But in terms of saturating their storage, it would be twice as fast, so yeah.

YT maxes out at 4k for the most part.

YouTube may cap out but the videos the create are in 8k.  A re-upload in 8k when YT gets support will breath new life into the videos.

Yeah, editing in 8k definitely has it's advantages, but uploading 8k is a bit much, considering how few people would truly appreciate it.

Personally, I don't think they're using the RED cameras to record the Youtube videos and definitely not recorded at 8k, would be waste of recording media.

 

if i remember correctly, they used to record at 4k, converted everything to 1080p but in some easy to edit format and then at render time, resample to 4k.

 

60fps for linus talking head makes no sense, broll also won't benefit from 60fps (slow pans and camera moving around some product)

 

Youtube uses more bitrate for 60fps vs 24..30fps but imho not as much as it should so the quality could be worse on 60 fps.

 

Also since a lot of hd videos these days are encoded/transcoded to VP9 by Youtube, and vp9 is not fully supported in all video cards (no100% hardware decoder except in gtx10xx if i remember correctly), 60 fps would only increase cpu usage for videos.

No one will care to go watch a re-upload. And yeah they film in 8k but the final export is in 4k.

Uh, they are. Especially for B-roll. 

They record at 8k.

YouTube has supported 8K since 2015... >_>  Granted few playback platforms will support it outside of the desktop PC and then while your desktop PC client will happily TRY to decode 8K, you have no promises that the hardware will pull it off.

Besides. This is all rendered or demo footage used from CES or some similar show.

I didn't say thing one about it being practical so I have no idea why you're attacking that.  People said it wasn't SUPPORTED and I pointed out that it actually was.
