He wants to impress everyone with tests and crap but he has a ton of money i told him that 10 cores are really overkill unless your running a setup like linus'es 2 cpu's 10 gamers build.

depends  if you want a x99 high-end cpu get a 6800k or if you love overclocking 5820k.

If it is pure for gaming, no

if it is pure for productivity, no get a xeon

if it is for gaming and streaming or recording at the same time and lots of rendering and he thinks  a 6800 or 6900 would not do it then maybe an it depends if he wants to spend that much money on a single part

Well, I wouldn't recommend it if that's the purpose.

If he wants to impress people with benchmarks, then it will depend what kind of benchmarks he's doing. In most games it's actually more likely to get less performance than something like a 7700K due to the slower individual cores. If he wants high Cinebench scores, tell him to go all out and pick up an Asus Z10PE-D16 WS and a pair of Xeon E5-2699 V4 CPUs.

Even if you do get it, You'll need dual GTX 1080s with overclocking to get "close" to the top of 3DMark charts.

If he uses it for gaming it will perform WORSE than an i7-6700k or 7700k. He'd even be better off with an i7-6800k (or 6850k) since they have higher clocks, if he's completely set on X99 for some reason.

Seriously, the BEST gaming build would be an i7-7700k and a couple 1080s (or Titan XPs if you hate money).

For gaming faster cores > more cores and the 7700k has the fastest cores.

Your friend sounds like a douche with more money than sense.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Well, it might be worth it. How much is tons of money? If I had a million dollars lying around, I'd have a 6050x. If I had $5000, I would not.
