Intel annouces Cannon Lake shipping before end of 2017

DarkBlade2117

Source:

My thoughts? I think this is horrible marketing. As much as Kaby Lake isn't worth it, this is just throwing off the average consumer. Anyone with a 4770k or even 3770k will just hold out because applications won't be that much more demanding by the end of 2017 and anyone knew needs more power then a 3770k or 4770k should just hop to X99 in my opinion. This is something to be hyped about, as it is more then just a refresh. This will bring actual IPC improvements hopefully and maybe we can see this as Intel knows something about Ryzen that we don't.

edit- we are all big noobs, cannonlake = mobile.

kaby lake imo is like broadwell for laptops

fucking amazing upgrade for laptops, shit on desktops

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

Maybe change the title to "before end of 2017" instead of just "before 2017". Personally I think Intel needs to get off their A** and bring something better to the table for desktops. More excited about ryzen.

Edit:

Thanks for changing. If I didn't say it someone else probably would...

Except it doesn't look like we're getting any Kaby Lake with the Iris Pro Graphics, I would have loved to see that

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

X99 is getting a refresh too, though I forget the designation. Honestly, Kaby/Cannonlake would only be worth it if your system is Sandy Bridge or older, or you're building from scratch or even switching from an older AMD platform. To see real world improvements in your everyday life, ya gotta wait like three or four solid generations in my opinion. Either way, Intel is shying away from desktop platforms anyway right? They got their sights on other things so really, what else can we expect from them?

Ya, there are some user specific features Kaby has that might justify a Kaby build over skylake and some of the people who love overclocking might see it as a slight advantage beyond skylake but in reality, we see tons of people saying they aren't going to overclock yet get a K sku.

I'd consider anyone with any Ivy-bridge CPU or older to have a justified reason to upgrade.

I'm about to upgrade from i3-2100 to Xeon E3-1240 lol. It was just $130 though. No CPU for that price can do as much as a HT Quad Core on Sandy Bridge (depending on workload)

To my understanding x99 has already had its Refresh usually 2 gens of cpus from what ive seen Haswell-E and Broadwell-E i dont think they will be doing another x99 cpu as skylake-x and so on is next which is and or will be a new socket revision and chip set

We know Skylake-E is on a new socket, and the new chipset was gonna be called X290 I think

Edit: less a "refresh" and more of a next gen altogether.

This is what I'M excited to hear about. I've been holding out as long as I can for an x299 build. I'm building my computer into a desk this time rather than a case, am in no rush, so I don't want to get an x99 build just before x299 comes out. Even if feature wise there isn't much difference, for me and my work, its an investment, and worth the wait having something that can (if necessary) be upgraded later rather than something that will only ever be as good as it was when I first put it together.

thats what ive just said my friend i quoting the guy above saying x99 is getting a refresh when its already been done (Broadwell-e) since most people would be sure that no more new x99 cpu's will be made

It appears absolutely every single person in this thread forgot that Cannonlake is mobile only, and that Coffelake is the real 10nm desktop version. Calm down people, Kaby (as lackluster as it is for desktop) still has somewhat of a lifespan.

EDIT: I was wrong. Coffee Lake is the Kaby Lake optimization, and is still 14nm. Icelake is the true 10nm desktop replacement, and won't arrive until 2018. Thanks @Sampsy

Lack luster to say the least my friend but on the plus side with kaby lake atleast intel gave us a 5GHz overclocking chip on a aio still doesnt deny the fact id rather have my second rig with a 4790k still hooked into it :)

I'd rather they know, before we end up with a thousand threads in the CPU subforum- "Buy kaby? Or wait for cannonlake?" when the only cannonlake products launching are the 15w U-SKU's and 5.2w Y-SKU's, neither of which are socketable for desktop.

I don't get why this has anything to do with consumer products as I don't think those chips are intended for anything besides low power mobile devices (ie they aren't directly a consumer product), so why is it even at CES
