Intel annouces Cannon Lake shipping before end of 2017

DarkBlade2117

The tinfoil hat in me always figured Intel's first design steps are how to create something they can overcharge for because "Intel".

I don't let facts get in the way of my dislike for Intel's stagnation in the consumer desktop market.

Also aren't the nice mobile chips hugely expensive and a bug reason why ultrabooks cost so much?

Intel 4670K /w TT water 2.0 performer, GTX 1070FE, Gigabyte Z87X-DH3, Corsair HX750, 16GB Mushkin 1333mhz, Fractal R4 Windowed, Varmilo mint TKL, Logitech m310, HP Pavilion 23bw, Logitech 2.1 Speakers

Here are some sample Mobile chip prices:

These are all per 1K orders btw

Core M - $280 USD

Core i5 Ultrabook - $280-300 USD

Core i7 Ultrabook - $350-380 USD

Core i5 Quad core Non HT - $250 USD

Core i5 Quad core Non HT with Iris Pro - $300 USD

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Edit: less a "refresh" and more of a next gen altogether.

This is what I'M excited to hear about. I've been holding out as long as I can for an x299 build. I'm building my computer into a desk this time rather than a case, am in no rush, so I don't want to get an x99 build just before x299 comes out. Even if feature wise there isn't much difference, for me and my work, its an investment, and worth the wait having something that can (if necessary) be upgraded later rather than something that will only ever be as good as it was when I first put it together.

Yeah poor choice of words on my part, but it looks legit and probably going to my platform of choice to next upgrade. I don't need more than 4 cores but I tell ya it'd be awesome to have all the firepower for whatever I throw at it in the next 3-5 yrs
